Hey guys, it's been quite a while since I've posted here, mostly because i went cummins a few years back. I would like some input from you guys with zf6's in your trucks and how you like them. Im thinking of doing a standard swap into my dodge but i really don't like the OD ratio on the G56's and I've read that the zf6's have a little better ratio on them. Also What kind of power are these trannys holding. I had a 99 7.3 PS but the power output isn't quite as much as my cummins is now, ha ha. Thanks Guys.

I think it's purdy well agreed.. the ZF6 can, and will take about as much work or play power.. as anyone would want. Had one behind my 2K 7.3 (Well tricked up for pulling) and was very pleased with the OD gearing. I would say however.. the split between 3rd & 4th could have been a bit lower... for hard pulls.. with yer foot in it.

New, It had a "Notchy" shifting issue.. but I fixed that by changing from the Ford ATF to Red Line.. Full synthetic ATF.

There are several series of ZF6 trannys; the ZF6-650 is one of the latest. It was introduced in Ford trucks in 1998 and GM three years later. This tranny can handle 520 ft lbs of torque.

I never minded the way my 99 shifted, it always seemed fairly smooth but we didn't have it to long (cut off by a school bus and T-boned it). 520 ft lbs eh? I wonder how that compares with a G56, probably is pretty close i would imagine if they are using them in newer fords. I do know however the cost of a zf6 in any variation is much lower that that mercedes hand shaker.

My son has an 06 Dodge twin turbo smarty tuned one ton with same tranny. He said newer dodge trans had better OD ratio. Once he tears his up I'm sure that's what he's going to put in. So far its holding up with over 1000flbs torque.
