I am considering installing a Mag Hytec transmission pan on my 2001 F350 7.3 DRW. My trans shop advised me to make sure that there is a longer pickup tube included. I've read many threads about these pans and have never heard about this before. Any comments would appreciated!

I'd call Mag-Hytec.. I've talked with them a number of times.. Straight Shooters, very helpful. They ask all the right questions.. about your usages and such ?

I was going to put one on my truck when it was new and Brian at http://www.brianstruckshop.com/index.html said he wouldn't do it.
With all the work that man has done on Ford transmission in the last 20 or so years I think he knows what he's talking about. I got a Mag Hytec for the rear end and have been real pleased with it. Just my 2 or 3 cents.

Thanks Doug. Did Brian ever say he wouldn't do it? My main reason for going to this pan is because of the increased fluid cooling. I carry a large, heavy truck camper.

He knows that I pull a 16500LB fifth-wheel that's 12-11 high and that's what he said. If I remember right he may of said that's just that much more oil to cool.
On your 2001 7.3 with DRW, why not spend some money and get a HD vale body for your transmission, that along with a 6.0 transmission cooler
should make your truck real happy.

Hmmmmm... Never thought about the HD valve body. Good idea! But why the "6.0 trans cooler"? Is there something unique about the 6.0 cooler?

The 6.0 ) cooler is huge. Its a great upgrade for a heavy tow vehicle.

As for the pan.Additional fluid will not help cool the tranny. Once the fluid heats up it will take longer to cool off. Remember the pan has very little to no cool air passing over it. So once it heats up, it will take a long time to cool off.
