First long fifthwheel pull with new 6.7 PSD

My first big tow was this summer with my 2015 F350 DRW. head just over 2k on it when we went out on this trip. Our 33 foot boat and trailer top about 12k lbs and pulled about 300 miles round trip. I even had my 12 foot zodiac inflatable and outboard motor in/on the bed.

Or next trip was a 10,340 mile cross country trip pulling our 38 foot 13,000 pound 5th wheel trailer.

This second generation 6.7L is a frickin BEAST! I still can't believe how easy and comfortable it was to tow with. Purchased in June and already have over 15k on it.

Nice truck and boat, that's what I understand that they are a beast. Enjoy your New Fifth-Wheel, looks like a nice one.

I wish I got that mpg even without pulling a trailer. I Just bought a 2015 F350 super duty SRW. I traveled to Montana to take my dad to the VA hospital in Salt Lake City and could only get 10 to 11.6 mpg. I am hoping that this truck will get better fuel mileage. I traded in my 2002 chevy duramax that was getting 16 to 18 with a 6 inch lift and oversize tires. Does anyone have in info for me or idea why I am getting such low mileage?

How many miles on it... What Rear-End Gears.

Jus' my .03 but.. with 3:55's in it.. 10/11 MPG isn't right. Something isn't right engine/drivetrain wise. I'd take it back to FORD.. for a GOOD scan ?

I say that only because my 012 (DRW) got 14/16 when brand new.. 16/18+ now, with 3:73's in it @ 24K miles ?

Joe thanks, I actually did that and they told me that nothing was wrong with it. That they put it on the diagnostic machine and that it is getting 14 MPG, but when I took it back out on the road and freeway it got 9.8 mpg. That was at SAMES ford in corpus christi. I did drive another ford of the same setup and it got 16.9 on the same route.
I talked to a few people and they told me to take it to a programer that programs fords and they can hook it up. thanks for your reply.

Hello out there Supper Duty Fans… I am going to be a new owner of a Supper Duty Diesel truck soon.. I need some help in finding out what F-series I am going to need for what I am planning on doing for the next 5 to 10 years. I am planning on buying a 5th wheel that weighs about 14,000 fully loaded. I want to know if pulling the 5th wheel with a F250 will do just fine, or do I have to get a F350 to do the job.. I know people out there will say if you don’t want to feel that your pulling something behind you, go with the F-350. I really don’t at first want to have to get a 350 if I don’t have to. I need some real help in this area. It will not be a new one either. I am looking at a two to Three year old truck with low mileage. I also want since I have heard the only best about the 6.7L 8clylinder Diesel is the way to go.. I need to know is crew Cab or supper Cab bigger. Should I go long bed, or Short bed.. I need lots of room in the back seating for a pet carrier for two Cats… Please help me figure this out. I know the bigger the Better is always the way to go, but I need to know if 250 will be Just fine for me… Thank you for your help in this matter… Mark

Depends on exactly what you really want. If you want the best, most comfortable towing, get a DRW truck. If you are 100% against a DRW get an F350 SRW, then last choice would be an F250. Personally, I see absolutely no reason to ever buy another F250 if I ever plan on towing a 5th wheel. I've towed with an F250 and will never buy one gain for a 5th wheel and I much prefer a long bed. I don't need a slider hitch and I don't have to worry about hitting the cab, both are benefits to the long bed. I now tow a 43 foot 5th wheel toy hauler with a 2015 F450 and would not even go back to an F350 DRW for my current trailer.

A friend of mine sold his motor home and bought a 40 foot plus 5th wheel about year ago. I told him not to buy an F250 for his 5th wheel as it was too big and he'd be trading within about a year but he bought the F250 anyways. He just traded his one year old F250 to a 2016 F450. RV owners seem to trade up so I suggest getting the right truck to start with and be done with the truck part.
