Auxiliary fuel tank in bed of 2016 F350 SWB

I want to put an auxiliary tank in the bed so I can pull farther without the need to refill the 26 gallon tank. I have been told that the 2016 F350 has a sealed fuel system, so that I can't use a tank that empties directly into the OEM fuel tank. One aux tank dealer says he has done many tanks and never heard of this.
I haven't been able to verify this.

To replace the OEM tank with a larger tank costs about the same as the complete in the bed tank. When finished, I would have 45 gallons or so, but if I put a tank in the bed, I would have the OEM 26 gallons plus around 45 more.

I have a tank/toolbox combo in my 2016 F350. It sets level with the top of the bed and holds 60 gallons. I have used it in a Short bed and was still able to pull my fifth wheel fine.
You cut the factory metal filler spout in two and remove about 3" of it, install a tee that came with my tank. It gravity feeds through a 5/16 hose into the tee that you installed. The tee has a check valve in the 5/16 fitting that is supposed to shut off the flow when the factory tank is full. That part doesn't always work when the aux tank is full but I never have a problem with overfilling the factory tank once the aux is 3/4 to 1/2 full.
I love it. I can pull from SW Okla. to South Fork, Co. without refilling.

I got a 100-gallon tank off another SDD member here, and plumbed it in with this:

I had to cut the back 2 corners down a bit, reweld, seal it all up, put an extra check valve and a return line in per the instructions. It is street legal in all 50 states and gives me a big range - well over 1500 even with light loads.

The auto fill feature is really nice, although my pump check valve is not always up to snuff so it sometimes drains down and fills the main tank on its own. Once or twice in the past 6 years, it has overflowed when parked at an odd angle, but other than that it is great. Twice filter fuel, water separator, options to buy cheap when you find it, etc. Fits under the hard tonneau cover so you don't know it's there.

I think all tanks are "sealed" but I believe (?) that's what the return line is for--to vent off the vapors back to the aux tank. I put a breather on top to avoid any vacuum or overpressure issues.

First - do the math, consider HOW MANY more gallons of capacity you'll get per dollar spent on the new tank...you WONT beat an in bed tank price per gallon.

I put an ATTA Tank in my 2004 F350 (long bed) - Aluminum Tank & Truck Accessories (aka ATTA) makes several shapes & styles.

I installed a 50g (in bed) tank w/ their Freedom Fill (automated pump) system - The Freedom Fill, will pump fuel from the aux tank when the factory tank reaches 1/4 full. The pumping automatically stops when the factory tank reacts 3/4 full and the cycle continues off/on until the aux tank is empty.

The atta tank (when used with the freedom fill) provides a separate fuel level gauge for the aux tank.

My 50g tank takes up a shallow 10 inches of bed depth - even with the tank, I still have more bed space than a short bed would have.

Aluminum ATTA tanks have baffles (reducing sloshing) and won't rust (like RDS / steel tanks).

How many gallons of fuel does it hold?

that one holds 50 gallons, I think (now) they make it in a 40 gal....which provides a combined total of nearly 90 gallons

I added an optional filler neck/port on the passenger side so that I could fill both (factory & aux) tanks at RV or Truck Islands.
My less fancy (smooth finish aluminum) was slightly cheaper....they have options that include tread plate finishing too.

That is exactly the setup I used (Freedom Fill kit, aux gauge, etc) but used a 100g used steel tank from member Tailgunner...ATTA was good about making sure it worked right, and reflashed their unit when it was acting odd. Comes on at about 1/2 full, off around 3/4, cycles automatically.
