Question Stuck in 4x4

(If this isn't allowed i will delete it, but this question applies to all superdutys). I have a 1999 f250 superduty v10. The transfer case appears to be stuck In 4x4 the solenoid clicks when I move the on dash switch but the drive shaft remains locked. I believe the 4x4 light comes on the dash. The second issue is the truck even with the transfer case locked in 4x4 doesn't have four wheel drive. I believe the needle bearing and axle seal on the passenger side are shot, im not sure if that would cause no 4x4. Any input or suggestions would be great! Thanks!

There is a whole bunch of stuff that causes the 'no shift' problems. The transfer case is shifted by a motor that is actuated by the solenoid. I have never owned a SOTF transfer case. I like MANUAL hubs and transfer cases, and this is why. You had better find a 4 X 4 mechanic to help you. Vacuum leaks are the number 1 reason why the SOTF stops working. The hubs are locked by this vacuum. Lock the hubs manually and see if you have four wheel drive, I would bet you do.

The hubs are only manual on this truck. There is no vacuum lines going to them and I have tried locking them and still no 4x4

When I stand outside the truck and have someone switch it into 4x4 I can hear the transfer case click. Would that be the solenoid or the motor clicking?

If the transfer case is in LOW lock you need to have your foot on the brake for it to shift out of low. High side is 1 to 1 ratio, shift on the fly...., low side is like 2.6 to 1 ratio and ford built in a safety feature that requires the brake lights to be lit for it to shift out of low.

Have you tried using the pin point tests to identify the problem? I used them and was able to trace down a similar problem, except my truck was stuck in 4x4.
