Sunday afternoon about 2;30 pm I saw smoke in the skys north of us. It turns out that a car had caught fire along the Willits Grade, north of Ukiah about 10 miles. The car quickly set the dry grass on fire and it quickly escalated to 900 acres by dark last night. I know there are at least 15 or so fires burning all over California.

No, the fire(s) are at least ten miles or more. Winds are blowing smoke away from Ukiah. So of this afternoon, the fire has not consumed any more acreage and is almost under control. My info is from our local newspaper and the Sheriff's office on FaceBook.

They can get out of control pretty quickly. I remember in the 70's when catalytic converters started being required and unleaded gas started, in Louisiana, the state troopers were told not to let their cars idle because the exhaust would start grass fires. It doesn't take much to start a huge wildfire.
