oil pan housing

Mine has looked awful for years. I treated it to a careful clean/degrease/clean/paint job about 6 years ago. But it looks like a kid with acne at this point. How big of a deal is it to replace. I recall the engine needs to be lifted. What should I expect to pay for it, and what would I need to do it myself?

I'm sure it's going to let go sooner or later, it just seems a matter of time...

Back a few years ago, it was an $1800 to $2000 job. I did an application of POR 15 on mine and my 2001 pan still is in tact and looking good. This topic was talked about at length at that time. There were a few innovative fixes that came down the line but most found that pulling the engine and replacing was the best. Not sure what is will cost today. I am not sure but someone was going to design a pan that was split and bolted together and I am not sure if that happened or not.

yeah, I recall the discussions but was hoping for an update. I also used the POR 15 treatment. It has stuck good, but it looks to me like it's probably an internal 'decay' which seems odd given it lives in an oil bath.

I am having mine replace now....Went with a Moroso oil pan $279 and gasket $77. Estimate 16-20 hours labor. ($85/hr) :(

Is yours leaking a bit or a lot? When it comes off, would you mind inspecting and shooting some pix of what exactly failed?

To properly reaplce the pan, you have to pull the motor and flip it over to adhere the new oilpan to the engine. It taked time! Give a call to Peter B, they will take care of you.

The Moroso unit gets installed by loosening the engine mounts, the cab mounts and then jacking the whole shebang up about 4" so that you can remove the old pan and slide the new one in there.It also has a really trick reusable rubber gasket like the trans pan or valve cover with metal inserts.

There are a couple of youtube vidoes of it.

Me & mine- i started a leak at a corrosion pinhole. i cleaned/beadblasted and degreased and then slathered the whole thing in fiberglass cloth and high-temp epoxy. i spent 8-10 hours on it- its still holding but I know I am on borrowed time.

Nope, haven't fixed and may never; it's not leaking (yet). I'm not going to be proactive on that, I guess. If I have to pull an engine, then a lot of other stuff would get looked at, and that $cares me...for example, the exhaust manifolds look like rusted hulks, the turbo is blowing oil from someplace, and I've never replaced the o-ring at the back of the engine.

I did just finally (after 226,000 miles) have to repair the oil cooler on the driver side of the engine, and driving back from up northern MN way, it puked several quarts from someplace else on the other side that I've not found yet. No leaks now, so maybe it was frozen up in there from the deep freeze of the far north and thawed as I drove it south.

Am looking at new trucks these days, even drove a '17 platinum 250 for grins -- hate the 'chrome package' on new fords it's too much bling for me, and I like the painted bumpers and other goodies on the platinum package. There were plenty (too many) gadgets and gauges on that truck...but can't find one w/o a sunroof and that is not on my list of things to want or need!

One brother is pushing me to Cummins/Dodge, and I do like the box sidewall tool storage (mega storage, I think it's called) but they're expensive, and well...Dodges. And I admit to secretly looking at the GMC K2500 in Denali trim...
