2020 Super Duty rumors

I was getting ready to spec a 2019 F250 4WD diesel but started seeing rumors about the 2020 Super Duty. I'm reading hints about a 10 speed transmission. Any thoughts or knowledge out there. It is assumed the 10 speed would improve mileage. I tow a 9K trailer and power and torque has never been an issue. The HP/Torque wars among manufactures always makes the sales brochures but I would like better mileage. I would like to read your comments. Thanks, Hal

I would worry about getting the first year new transmission until they prove the upgrade. That’s just me.


2019 F-250 Platinum

I think the 6 spd went through millions of testing before supplied on F250 to F550. I haven't heard much in the way of problems with the introduction of the 6.7

I think the first couple years of 6.7's had turbo issues. Mostly to do with the ceramic bearings. I knew a guy that went through a couple. But then his truck was tuned and deleted shortly after buying it.

Is there a redesign?

OK, I know it's a different platform, but my wife's EcoBoost Explorer drives me crazy. That vehicle moves pretty good, especially since it has a 1.0l I-4 boosted engine. To make up for that NARROW Powerband, it shifts all the time. Up, down, up, down, down, up, up....

Now, the warranty has been great, but it's been in the shop for tranny issues. It has to have a lot more parts and electronics than 1 with fewer parts.

Now, I must admit there are times when I wish my 7.3 would just go ahead and upshift. Mostly around town, cruising thru traffic etc.
I once read that someone wanted to put the tranny in their 7.3 out of a 6.0 since it had 1 more gear. But the best answer was the final ratio was the same, and the other gear was only needed to make up for the different power band.

Well I bought one. Unloaded I don't even notice anything different. Unloaded it skips over gears something like 1, 3,5,7,10.

I would guess this tranny makes using 3:55 gears doable when loaded.
