Hello, Everyone. I don't post much. I don't think I have much to add to the conversations but get a lot of info from this forum. Thanks for that.
I'm thinking about replacing my '13 F250 TD with a '19 F350 TD and now I am looking at Ford's 2019 RV & Trailer Towing Guide. Looking at the page for F350 SRW SD 5th wheel/gooseneck towing, 6.7L TD and 3.55 axle ratio. Under the GCWR column there are only 2 numbers with weights under the column to the right headed '4X4 160"WB' (the truck I am interested in). GCWR 21,600 (footnote 'optional 10K # GVWR pkg') indicates a trailer weight of 13.6K (no footnotes). Further down GCWR 28.6K (no footnotes) has a corresponding trailer weight of 20.6K with footnotes of 17" tires and 'gooseneck tow rating shown. 5th Wheel tow rating limited to 5th wheel hitch rating of 18K'.
The whole chart is 5th wheel/gooseneck! How do you get from 21.6 GCWR and 13.6 trailer weight to 28.6 and 20.6? What accounts for the difference? What package must I add to get to 28.6 and 20.6? Now that I type them again, those numbers don't even make sense. 20.6# trailer and combined 28.6?
Okay, let me have! What am I missing?
Thanks for struggling through all these numbers.

I might get corrected but, 28,600 is the GCWR Gross Combination Weight Rating & 20,600 is the towing rate max.

Say the vehicle weight 8,000 + max towing 20,600 = 28,600.

I'm using what I did for my 2017 F350 CC 6.7L 4X4, DWR & GCWR.

Thanks, Sark. I think I get that. When I said it didn't make sense, I didn't say it but was thinking that if you are towing 20,600# trailer, it seems the truck is going to weight more that 8,000. That comment didn't add anything...should have left that out.

My question, that got lost in all the words and numbers, is what options/ equipment is required to get from 21,600 gcwr to 28,600, the two GCWRs I see in the chart for the 6.7L and same axle ratio and truck configuration? Footnote says you have to have 10,000 # GVWR package to get to 21,600 but there are no footnotes at 28,600.

It's a little hard to explain, But I'll take a stab at it.
I've been towing RV's for over 20yrs. and this is what I found out, You need to weigh everything at a public scale!

GCWR = Max TV rate., + vehicle weight + payload cap.
Tow rating; If it is rated to tow 20,000lb. max., that's it! your trailer should not way more than that. Pin weight should be under 20%

Payload; Includes everything you put into/on your Truck, peeps, cargo, fuel, hitch, 4x4.... etc.

GVWR; Say it's 25,000lbs. fully loaded ready for the road (weighed at scale) is 19,000. That means you can carry 6,000lbs more in the truck NOT towing cap.
If your Trailer weighs 20,600lbs (fully loaded and weighed) and it is rated to tow 20,000lbs. your 600 over!

You get the idea! Separate the ratings for a better idea on how they work together.

Thanks, eZAK61. Well done!
I weighed everything a long time ago. I'm 1,000 over GVWR and 140 lbs over rear GAWR. So, as I think about moving to a F350, I'm trying to make sure I get it right this time.

Just found a Ford '2019 RV & Trailer Towing Guide' with a revision date of 1/18/19 that is much simpler than the one I was looking at when I made my original post.

F350 SRW 6.7 3.55 GCWR is 28,700 in the 5th wheel/gooseneck chart.

Under the CC, 4X4, SWB column are two 'Maximum Loaded Trailer Weight' numbers:
20,700 with footnote that says it is gooseneck rating and 5er tow rating is limited to 5er hitch rating of 18K and
15,700 with footnote that says with optional 10K GVWR package

I still don't understand the difference in the two trailer weights since both are for 5th wheel/gooseneck. But 15,700 will cover any trailer I will ever own. Plus, I think the 2019 GVWR package is 11,400.

So, if I can get over sticker shock I will move on with ordering a F350. Any comments or cautions will be appreciated.

I wonder if theres a typo on the pamphlet you're reading? My 250 has the 10k GVWR. I know it was an option for my year truck. I think the 350's were 11,300. If I add the numbers in the parenthesis on my door tag they come to 11,300. Which makes sense since 250 and 350 has the same suspension. At least in my generation.

I think you are correct about the typo. I have built a F350 on ford's site and see a 11,400 GVWR package. Have also see a F350 window sticker with a 11,500 package.

The door tag on my '13 F250 says GVWR of 10,000. The two axle weight rations add up to 11,700. ?? The longer I look at this the more confused I get.

The yellow door tag says the payload is 1,905 lbs. Is that the difference between the shipped weight of the truck and 10,000?

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

That's weird that your door tag says 10k. I wonder if it's a registration thing? I know the 10k was a free option for my truck. Otherwise the door tag says 9990lbs. It supposed to save on registration fees.

My understanding is that it is the difference between the state GVWR on the sticker and what the truck actually weighs. When I first got my truck I ended up on the scales at the dump and it said somewhere around 8600lbs with two people and about half tank of fuel I think. So I have 1400lbs before reaching max rating. And that would include pin/tongue weight, fuel, suit cases, etc.

My 2017 F350,6.7,CC,DRW,4X4 has a 14,00lb. GVWR. Also the 250 & 350 don't have the same suspension if DRW F350. In California registration you have to worry about "GCWR" which is "Gross Carrying Weight Rating"

I knew the suspension between the DRW and SRW were different. But the SRW is the same. All the part numbers are the same in Ford's catalogue.

Yeah. It saves money on registration, but you better hope you don't get pulled over at 9991lbs.
