I have a 2000 Ford F-350 7.3 4x4 crew cab. Truck has 233,000 miles. Periodically, it will sound like a knock on startup and missing, underpowered. When you rev it it gets tiny bit of white/grey smoke with black smoke. Once you drive it for about 5 miles and get on it, it finally clears up and runs good. Had injectors and glow plugs checked a couple weeks ago and the shop said they passed the buz test fine??

I’ve replaced cam position sensor, exhaust back pressure sensor, fuel filter, air cleaner ect. Could it be clogged pickup foot in tank? Injectors?? At a loss and looking for help.

My 2002 does something similar on startup, especially on cold winter illinois days. 18° yesterday morning and I've learned to just let everything warm up well before driving. Cold engine results in some unburned fuel which is causing the excess exhaust color. It's the nature of the beast to be underpowered when cold. The buzz test refers to the noise the enjectors make when tested with diagnostic equipment.

Could be injectors.

You didn't say......when was the last time you changed the oil?

Changed oil last week. Dropped gas tank today and found fuel pickup literally disintegrated. Cleaned out tank and did harpoon mod and Hutch mod with strictly Diesel kit. Also breather lines on fuel tank were disinterested leaving open acces to tank on both ends. Seems to be running much better. Time will tell.

This is all that was left of pickup that was in the tank.
