Hello,
Two codes appeared on my truck about a week ago.
P0401 and P20BA

I also get a warning message on the DIC, 'Low Exhaust Fluid' range 705mi.

I filled the tank with DEF and did a visual on the wiring coming from the DEF tank.

Should I just clear the codes and see if they reset or should I take it in?

I plan on taking the truck for a blowout drive (about 4hrs) on Monday.

What are your guys thoughts?

Thank You!

Not sure what year your truck is, but my 2011 at around 280,000 KM gave me the same errors and unless I was pulling regularly, my regen became more and more frequent. My mechanic advised I could do the repairs that would clear the codes, but that my filter was gradually failing and I would need to do a filter replacement in the near future. He estimated a price of $6K for the replacement. I'm not sure if your laws permit it, but here in Alberta I had the option of a delete and went that route for a cost of $1600. The only down side for me personally, is the smell of diesel exhaust. Everything else has been a plus, better fuel economy, no more DEF and much more power.

Legally we can not delete any emissions system. Many states do not check yearly so you can get away with it. By the way I do not own a Ford Diesel at this time.

rlaspinall, "...my filter was gradually failing and I would need to do a filter replacement in the near future." could you explain this filter?

At this point I'll check the EGR an probably replace it. Then I'll look into replacing the reductant heater.

Any suggestions, tips, or advice is always welcome!

(most pertinent info. on my truck is contained at the bottom of each post)

There's TSB on one of the sensors for exhaust flow. I think mine was replaced early in ownership. I can't find it right now, but I know I got something from Ford about extending the warranty out to 100k. It might be worth researching.

I wouldn't go just throwing parts at this problem. There's not a whole lot you can just "check" with relation to the EGR on these unless you're just talking about the EGR valve itself.

OK, Here is the latest update. Truck is at the dealer.

They told me that P20BA IS covered under Field Service Action 18MO1

However, P0401 is NOT covered under FSA 15MO2. Replacement of EGR is required!

I like the old days when you could replace (or bypass) an EGR and still have plenty of time to drink with the guys!
