What kind of tranny temps are you all seeing right now. mine normally sits at about 150 degrees and the last two days I have benn seeing temps around 160 to 165. Obviuosly nothing serious, but just an increse in temps from one day to the next. just curious

thats what i'm seeing

not towing 50-60 deg. over ambiant temps are normal (150-185), so yes thats normal especially if the ambiant temp went up... if it starts getting up into the mid 200's then its working to hard and needs to chill

I've heard it said by other guys.. that 90° above the outside ambient temp is normal... But here in Havasu it gets so hot that I don't think that really equates out to being true. When it's 115°-120° outside that would mean I should be running around 205°-210° - Which I have never seen but once pulling up a rather large grade without the TC being able to lock up.

I run 150-160 most of the time... In town if I'm running around I heat up a little more.. as high 180° But on the open highway running 75 I usually never see over 150°.

DM,

Thanks, that is what I figured. I am in PHX, and was just curious what others were seeing. Especially those living in triple digit temps. Thanks again

Ford says that the max sustained is 230 with a temp spike of 248, but I've also seen a general rule as follows:
175o= 100,000+ miles, 190o= 90,000 miles, 210o (Pressure Drops) = 55,000 miles, 230o (Valves Stick) = 25,000 miles 250o (Varnish Forms) = 17,000 miles, 270o (Seals & Clutches Burn) = 4000 miles 300o + = TRANSMISSION FAILURE
Granted, this is probably a rough guess for regular fluid, not synthetic.

I have the V-8/V-10 tranny cooler and another auxillary cooler about 12" square. Today the temp was a humid 90+ and I saw about 160 - 165 degrees while towing. I dropped off the trailer and drove another 2 hours with tranny temps about 140 -145. I have an early 99 without the tranny cooler in the radiator.
