I know you guys might get tired of these type of threads, but I figure I'll start a specific product vs. product as I cant make up my mind, plus I don't really know anyone else personally with a 7.3 that has either of these two.
Sometime in the spring of the upcoming year I plan on getting either an EZ or the Evo. Let's not bring up SCT programmers or anything else, just concentrate on these two. Obviously, I can read and figure out the description of each and know what it will do and don't. Let's also set price and install asside, because that won't matter for me. No worry in extended warranties either.
I was originally looking at the EZ because I could mount it under the hood, plugs inline with the ICP sensor, has adjustable power levels with a switch routed to the cab (?). I then came across the Evo on all the vendors websites that I never bothered to look at, the Evo looks like it has a lot more to offer as far as clearing trouble codes, and other fancy features that I probably won't really need, plus I like how it just plugs into the OBD port, an extra screen telling you whats going on is nice as well. They both have an X amount of selectable tunes for power.
Before this, I plan on having a good set of gauges, 4'' turboback, and an intake.
My question is, is this going to come down to personal preference? I don't want a module/programmer that's going to bring too much power through the motor - especially shortening the life of the factory turbo, or putting my stock 4R100 in harms way (60,000 miles). I also like to be able to switch back to stock at any particular time without too much of a hassle.
The "canned" tunes for diesels on modules and programmers, are they really good enough to not worry about any damage from using them? This is, assuming dyno tuning would be the best bang for the buck.
Any other opinions?
