What is the deal with McAffe? That was the worst virus I have ever had to remove. I bought it about 6 years ago and that version put a "STOP" in the autoexec.bat file so WIN98 just sat at the splash screen. I found that, removed it and then told it to uninstall. It said it did but left behind all kinds of stuff. Took me quite awhile to get rid of all of it.
I haven't run an anti-virus program for ~5 years and I have had 1 weenie virus that Avast got rid of right away. I think in this case an ounce of cure is worth a pound of prevention.

I feel your pain. Crap happens, but the crap quit happening to me three years ago when I wiped, did a fresh install of XP Pro, and began using Norton Internet Security w/full utilities and firewall.
I even managed to choke out that "about:blanK" IE hijack until a couple of weeks ago. Boy, do I hate that fawker but I refuse to pay for another piece of disguised spyware that will eliminate it.
I hang mostly with the firefox browser which only seems to screw up by dropping essential cookies occasionally.
I apologize for not being of any help....pleading stupidity in this instance.
