Update: $3000 repair cost. This thing is scorched. AND. This "ATS" transmission is nothing more than a stock trans with thicker drum and 5 extra clutch packs. Sure glad I didn't buy this transmission. I'd be pretty upset. It's almost more aggravating seeing it busted after only owning truck 2...- mike.germann

My firs instinct was to check and see if I accidentally pressed the 'Overdrive Off' button on the shifter. I pressed it and felt the RPM's raise a little bit as it kicked in. I don't think that's the problem, unless there's internal parts that aren't where they should be. It's jus weird because...- mike.germann

I bought the truck from Nazty4x4 about 2 months ago. Apparently the transmission comes with a 500,000 mile warranty, but is non-transferrable. Sucks. Transmission can't be that old. Which leads me to believe that it probably had a rough life before I got. Reeeaaaal rough.- mike.germann

That's pretty cool. Just curious, what does one of those fancy gadgets cost? Is there any other maintainance that will help extend the life of my turbo? Thanks NevrKnow. You're right, I forgot to write my chip in the sig. I have the DP F5 tuner also, with the same settings. I'll be sure to add it. I'm about to go on a 3,500 mile road trip. Even when my truck has been running for a while and is at operating temps, my engine idles at a stable 300 degrees, and doesn't ever go below that until I shut it off. What would y'all recommend? How long should I let my truck warm up?
Thanks guys. I was letting my truck idle for 10-15 minutes to get it warm, but it sounds like that isn't the best thing for a turbo diesel engine. How long should I let my truck warm up?
This may be a dumb question, but here goes: how long should I let my 7.3L turbo diesel engine run before driving? So far I've been letting the temp gauge rise into the operating range, but I don't want to burn a bunch of fuel idling. Should I just keep doing what I'm doing? Thanks.- mike.germann

Thanks for the advice, guys. Took my truck to some good ol' Maryland back-country, locked up my hubs once I got off the hard ground, set in 4HI and drove around for a couple miles. I do have a locking front differential. Detroit. As far as the steering, I've only locked my hubs once. I wasn't able to move the steering wheel much after rolling a few feet forward. I didn't put much 'oompf' into the turn, because I wasn't sure if the steering wheel resistance was normal, so...- mike.germann

Alright thanks man. That's a good starting point. I also heard that I could just lock one hub, to make steering a little easier. Going from what I read in your last replay, I think that would technically make the truck 3wd, not quite 4wd... because 3 out of the 4 wheels would be getting...- mike.germann
