    Unless he pried the thermostat out of the housing I dont think he could forget to put it back it. The upper hose connection is part of the housing. I dont think you can buy the housing and thermostat seperately.

    Last fall my 6.0 didnt want to ever get to full operating temp, I pulled the thermostat and the aluminum housing was actually very worn where the steel thermostat is supposed to close against it and seal. It would never get quite all the way closed. Might be time for a new thermostat?
