Good or Bad Idea with this purchase

350k is the avg end of the service life on a IDI. But I've seen many go longer than that and a few die sooner. I pull a 15k GN with my '92 on a commute between Kali and TX. I like the simplicity of mechanicals and the truck has no problems keeping up with others. Also, it's not very stock...

I don't get so lucky. I have one in the shop leaking out the rear plate. I got the bolt off the passenger side of the pump. is there another hiding somewhere? I have the gear bolt off already and the gear out. ...found the second one. for those looking for it, its buried under the threaded...

    doing headstuds

how strong is your back? the heads on the IDI weigh about as much as a 4cyl honda(j/k but its close) You could jack up the body, but I have done the gaskets with a large rubber band holding the right rear headbolts against the valvesprings. It's pretty obvious which ones won't come out on...

    Changing Injectors -

200k on a IDI is nothing. Just getting broken in. Unless if the rings have been washed down. Then all bets are off. I am concerned with the reports of the gunked up injectors. that is a clear indication of the copper washers not doing their job and the compression gasses have gotten through...

    IDI questions? See OB........

There has been extensive discussion with the IDI group in the past about supporting SDD. The conclusion was made that two forums was quite enough already and adding SDD was going to overly dilute the information already spread about. We still have people who are posting on both sites for the...

    IDI questions? See OB........

If you found this site through another site or links and own an IDI 83-94, drop by www.oilburners.net and look up the IDI section. You'll find more company there! :D

    Shes doing it again

not enough background for judgement. But I would look at the A/F and the inj. pump. Possibly, the advance plunger is "stuck" (not uncommon). BTW drop on by the "Oilburners" site. There's quite a few active IDI guys/gals hanging out there. You just might get more responses! :D

Let us know if you have any ideas

I was just being a wiseass :D . But there are some newer ford owners who have no clue that "superduty" was made famous once again from '89 when they cleaned chevy's clock with the F450. I know, I was a diehard chevy towtruck guy until I drove a F450. I still keep one chevy around for parking...
