    New to bio diesel

Bio diesel has finally made it to the Birmingham AL area, they are selling B20. Now, will one of you old hands out there tell me if I will have any problem using B20 in my 01 SD, Ford recomends using B5 only, I wonder why??? Should I carry a spare fuel filter? Will I have to change any fuel...

    Towing question

Sawboy, I towed my 4x4 offroad rig with straps for 5 or 6 years. I got they from Northern Tool and I think they were rated for 5,000# each. I used 4 straps, two in the front and two in the rear. Both front and rear straps were crossed, attatched to left side of trailer and right side of...

The Best Things You Have Found On The Road

I found two dead possums on the side of the road as I was on the way to the airport last week. I tried to take them on the flight with me but was told I could only have one 'carry on'. Other than that I've only found about 15 or 20 rubber bunge tie downs over the past several years. Stuff on...

    Arrrrggggg..........

The picture looked like a fuel filter and NOT an oil filter. But, it was still a mess to clean up. I'll bet you only do that once... "No one respects the flame like he who has been burned."

    New lift pics

WHY would you do that to a perfectly GOOD Ford SD????? A truck that tall is LOOKING for a place to "roll over and play dead". I just hope it doesn't happen on the highway. Just my 2 cents worth.

    BFG Velvet Ride Shackles

What are they? I know what shackels are but I have never heard of the "BFG Velvet Ride" shackles. How do they differ from the stock ones?

    Fuel Mileage............

Man, my milage dropped from an average of 16-17mpg to 15mpg for the last two tanks. I usually cruise around 70-75mph and do a little around town driving. I wonder...have they changed the diesel blend as the weather has gotten warmer? The drop came after I changed my fuel filter and did an oil...

    Banging Drive Shaft HELP HELP

I could be a busted left motor mount and not the t-case mount. As the engine torques up and to the right the T-case hits the floor pan. I have seen offroad truck have this problem and our diesels have a LOT more torque than gas motors.

    Brake problem, got any ideas??

JimmyDee is da man!! I went out and tried his suggestion of making 8-10 HARD stops from 50-60mph and guess what??? No more 'bumping' when I brake, well at least so far... I wouldn't think the rotors or pads were glazed over as they are new. I told a friend about this, he races sports cars...

    Need a winch, suggestions?

A good way to store a 'reciever mount winch' is to mount a 2x2 universal receiver in the bed of your truck. When the winch is not needed you just slid it into the receiver, lock it and it is safe and secure until needed. I sure would NOT want 100 plus pounds of winch to become a projectile...

    Brake problem, got any ideas??

Well, I got new tires, BFG A/T's and it still does it. I have a buddy that has a set of front rotors he took off of his truck. I may get them turned and try'em B 4 I spend BIG bucks on a new set for the front. But, I think some of it may be the ABS pulsing...but I don't really know what the...

    Need advice on Tires

I just put a set of 285x75x16 BFG A/T's on my 01 SD 4x4. I have used BFG's on several other trucks and had great luck with them. The tire tech put the heavy duty E rated tires on my truck, I was going to get D rated as I don't pull HEAVY loads. They were about ten bucks a tire more so the...

    Brake problem, got any ideas??

Thanks for ann of the ideas. I'm going to check with the Ford stealership to see if I should have any shims on the rear pads, here were none on the old pads. Next I think I will pull the caliper pins and make sure they are lubed and everything is slidding nice and smooth. Before I put them...

    Brake problem, got any ideas??

Maybe mine are the front rotors...Everything on the back is new. I was talking to a buddy of mine today and he said his SD did the same thing SOMETIMES but not all of the time. It may be something I'll have to put up with in order to have a SD.

    Brake problem, got any ideas??

I don't have 'axle wrap' or axle twisting. I have been around trucks long enough to know what axle wrap feels like and it an't there. I have checked everything on the rear end, shocks, sway bar, u-bolts, u-joints caliper bolts, NOTHING is loose. It doesn't 'CLUNK' like metal to metal in has a...

    Brake problem, got any ideas??

Hey, be nice Tbar, they came on the truck. I will more than likely go with a set of 285x75x17 BFG's soon. I just checked my rear spring bushings and sway bar, everything is tight. But, I did see where the 'helper spring', the one on top of the main spring pack, had been hitting/rubbing its...

    Brake problem, got any ideas??

The rear lugs were torqued, in a star pattern, to 145 ft.lbs. using a torque wrench, NOT one of the color coded torque sticks on an impact gun. When I took the old pads off there were NO shims on them so...I didn't put any shims on the new pads. I reused the rattle clips.

    Brake problem, got any ideas??

Bushpilot, Thanks for the ideas. The truck has the 'camper package' with front and rear sway bars and a set of rear 'helper' springs above the standard rear springs. The shocks are replacements, not OEM's and are about a year old. There is no center carrier bearing on the drive shaft, it's a...

    Brake problem, got any ideas??

Ok, heres the deal. I have an 01 SD 4x4, 265x17 Firestones, extended cab with a little over 100,000 miles. Almost everytime I brake the truck bounces as if the rear rotors are warped, I can feel it in the seat. I took the stock rear rotors and had them turned, they were warped a little. It...

    Brake controller

Red, First take the big fuse pannel cover under the steering wheel off. It has four fasteners holding it on. Now look on the right hand side of the large hole you just opened up and you will see a white plastic connector. It may be stuck up in your 'dash wiring nest' but it's there. If you...

    Batteries?

I went with the Gold Duralast 1000 cca from AutoZone. I know several SD drivers that have been using them for years with no problems and they have served me well so far. I have read sevral places that it isn't a good idea to replace just one batttery on a dual setup. The reason being the...

Performance Switches and Knobs on dash?

If it were my truck I would get the name of the previous owner from the dealer and talk to him. He should know what the switches do. If that doesn't work out I would wait until it warms up and crawl under the dash to check things out. You could then take a label maker and label the switches...
