Tom,
I always carry a bottle of Diesel 911 (red bottle) with me. It has helped me avoid fuel gelling issues @ -20 below unplugged overnight and starting in the A.M. Also I make sure my batteries are no more than 4-5 years old.
I cycle the glow plugs 2-3 times before I crank the starter. I...
15 degrees or colder, 1 of 2 ways to start the engine.
- plug in the oil pan heater for an hour, or
- plug in the block hearter for 2 hours.
Either way, I cycle the glow plugs twice, and the engine fires up.
Hopes this helps,

Or order on line. I touched up my wheel well lip area with some Herculiner, so, so good. this stuff seems to take care of rocks chipping the wheel wells.
hopes this helps,

Kirk,
Have you checked your fuel filters for clogging? It is simple to check the valley filter. The intank filter is a little more work to get to.
Just a thought.

Just heard on the news, Ford is doing a recall on cars and trucks for faulty cruise control issues.
Does anyone have more info on this?
Thanks,

2001,
Yep, i just replaced mine on Sat. 09/26/09. Old one was running when it felt loke it, so replacement was in order. It took me all of 1/2 hour to do. I unbolted the vacuum pump and starter solenoid from the fender wall to ease reoving the old unit.
I removed the old unit, installed...
Lone,
Either Rhino or Line-x - you can't go wrong with either. I have a Rhino for 10 years now, really holds up well. I throw sand, gravel, shovels, brick, block, firewood, even haul a slide in camper. It holds up very well.

Some engines will develope leaks ,others won't switching to synthetics.
I am a past Amsoil dealer and have seen this happen with customers' engine switching to synthetics - however as mentioned above, not in all cases.
My opinion - try the switch - if no leaks, then good for you.

Yes,
We have 3 vehicles that we use Zaino on. It is the best product I have used in many years of polishing all the vehicles that I have owned.
It is time consuming, but worth it. A real time and work saver is investing in a random orbitor polisher (IE: Porter-Cable). This make the job go...
Also check for any corosion on the pin / socket contacts. I found using a dielectric grease helps in minimizing any corosion problems and keeps the harness and trailer lights fully functional.

I have used both Delo and Rotella over the years, both are great, reliable oils to use. They are readily availible, cost effective, and have a well established track record w/ the big boys (semis and fleet owner/operators).

Trisha,
I had simular problems w/ my 2000 PSD. I had the CPS changed out (FORD recall). My HPOP (high pressure oil pump) checked out O.K.
The problem I encountered was crud on the in tank fuel pickup filter - it was almost totally blocked allowing diesel fuel starvation to the engine. I...
Warmer cab heat, if you really need this that is all as there is no other perks to this.
The question I have to ask you is: does the state you live in do (or about to do) diesel emissions testing? If so beware of the higher tstat - increasing coolant temps will produce and increase in NOx...
Also, have you looked into the main ignition switch? I have a couple of past vehicles that were draining my batteries - driving me nuts trying to figure it out. It wasn't until I dug into the ignition switch (relaced them), that my drained battery problem went away.

Start w/ the simple - visually inspect for any burnt tracks, and for and shorts.
Inspect for any chafing, worn wires / ribbon cables on the assembly.
If you have the wiring schematics and know how to use them would be helpful for this application. Also check all the wiring harnesses leading...
Rotella T for me. I tried Amsoil -found I can't justify the added expense of this lube in my engine. I am very happy w/ the Shell product -cost effective, and easily availible.
