looking at buying a truck can someone run a car fax please

If you have a dealership that you're comfortable with I would speak to one of the service department writers there and have them run what is called an Oasis report. This report will give you a complete breakdown of the repairs on the truck that were performed at Ford dealerships. It's a great...

    Coolant and Oil Bypass filter

I too have done both oil and coolant bypass filters and the coolant filter is mounted to the right of the radiator. I have the FS-2500 bypass filters for my engine and tranny and they are both mounted on my frame rails. Engine on the driver's side and tranny on the passenger's. As it is, the...

FYI Motorcraft Synthetic 5W-40 Engine Oil

The 6.0L owner's manual says OCI's of 7,500 miles for normal use and 5,000 for severe duty, but that is way too long for these engines. After much contemplation, I think I am going to stick with the Motorcraft 15W-40 conventional oil for the time being. I will watch the availability of the...

FYI Motorcraft Synthetic 5W-40 Engine Oil

I was at my dealership a few days ago to pick up my brother's 06 6.0 and noticed a display at the cashier's window that showed all of Ford's engine oil offerings. Included in the offering was a Synthetic 5W-40 oil for diesels in 5 quart bottles. I followed up and got a price from my...

    2006 king ranch 20's on 2003 2wd

All 2005 through 2009 Super Duty trucks use the same backspace on all the wheels available and it is deeper than the backspace on all 1999 through 2004 Super Duty wheels. Two wheel drive and four wheel drive is the same within the two groups of years. Using the newer wheels on your 2003 MIGHT...

    Question Tranny Got Hot...now what?

How long did the tranny run at 220? If it was just a brief period of time then you are probably okay, but you'll have to keep monitoring the performance of the tranny and see if it is acting funny. How many miles are on the synthetic tranny fluid that's in there right now? About the only thing...

    got some questions

My 2003 6.0L is an early production truck (Feb. 2003) and it has had very few problems. The biggest thing is proper upkeep. As far as choosing a truck, the later trucks will be more refined but they have their problems too. The best way to go is to find a truck and get an Oasis report on it...

    Name that dog

Peter, Man that is one heck of a cute puppy. Here's a link for ya...http://http://www.geocities.com/dog_names/name_your_dog_german.html I simply did a search on Google for "German Names for Pets" the link above is just one of many that came up on the search. Kudos to you for...

    Question Tranny Got Hot...now what?

Were you running in 4 HI or 4 Low? You will move slower but you have a better mechanical advantage running in soft conditions in 4 Low. If that isn't an option, then about the only thing left is a bigger tranny cooler and possibly set it up with a thermostat controlled cooling fan. Since you...

    Ford 6.0 VGT Turbo Removal?

I also bought my manuals from Helm. The shop manual has two very thick books and I also purchased the Wiring Diagrams book. They are a truly invaluable tool.

    How big of tires?

The 250's tend to sit fairly level from the factory. The 350's have a rake to them because of the higher payload and thus more deflection is required in the rear springs. If you have the factory 20" wheels, then the factory size tires for those wheels are approximately 34" tall so 35" tires...

235/85/r16 Toyo Open Country M/T on a dually?

If you want to make sure they are the stock size, check the vehicle ID sticker located below the door latch on the drivers door when the door is open. This sticker will tell you the proper size and inflation pressure. I believe 235/85/R16 Load Range E is the proper size for your dually but...

    Question Posi rear end

Just to add a bit of information...the axle code on the Drivers door post will be one of two types. Type one is two numbers which indicates an open rear end. Type two is a letter followed by a number which indicates a limited slip rear. This is universal across all ford trucks from all years.

    Superduty Gasser

Randy, From what I have found online there are a few V-10 owners lurking over on The Diesel Stop. I know one guy over there just bought an 09 V-10 F-550 for his towing and recovery company because he had a 6.0 that he was constantly getting fixed while another of his near identical F-550...

    Horrible fuel mileage

Below is a link to the Ford Automatics section of Gear Vendors web page. http://http://www.gearvendors.com/f2wd4s.html I'm not sure why they don't have 4wd trucks listed especially since both trucks I have seen the OD units on were 4wd. Hope this helps give you some alternatives for...

    Horrible fuel mileage

I don't think it's possible to get 10+ mpg on a 6.4Liter F-450 pulling a 18,000 lb. trailer. If you take a look at the vehicle ID sticker on the door frame when the drivers door is open look for the "AXLE" section. What is the code in that section of the sticker? If the code is 8L you have...

    Horrible fuel mileage

Does this truck has the High Capacity Trailer Towing Package? The 6.4's are not as efficient on fuel as a 6.0 and nowhere near a 7.3. If the dealer reflashes your PCM and things don't improve about the only two options I see are installing a DPF delete kit with a tuner (this will VOID your...

    6.0 power steering problem...HELP!!!!

I see from your first post the "cab was off", but you didn't say whether this was a superduty chassis or an econoline van cutaway chassis. Also what year is the truck and what model F-350, 450, or 550? If I remember correctly, I read somewhere the 05-07 F-450 and F-550 have a different...

    Gasoline in fuel!!! ...WTF!?!?!

I don't think I would fill the fuel filter bowl on the engine with diesel fuel. Just because you clean out a container to use for pouring in clean fuel doesn't mean the fuel doesn't have stuff suspended in it. When the fuel filter cap is tight it places a downward pressure on the filter...
