You can buy a gasket, but HIGH TEMPERATURE RTV seatant will be just as good.

    Gears

With your 35" tires I would keep the 4.10's (if you have them.) The process is intimidating, and rightfully so. If you do not have a friend who is GOOD with gears and has the time, and patience, to help you then I would leave the R&R to a good shop. Don't forget to do both diffs

    Engine oil question...

I do not know about the weight of the oil, but I do have an opinion on synthetic oil. I will not discount the qualities of synthetic lubricants, but, IMHO, if you are not interested in extended drain intervals and do not have a bypass oil filter then synthetics are not necessary. A good quality...

how to prep a gauge pod fpr paint?

I followed the instructions FastColts posted, and my overhead mount turned out perfectly. I used the Ford paint ONLY. I did not use a primer because I did not have any of the Ford primer, and I do not like to mix different brands or lines of the same brand of paint. Sometimes different kinds of...

    no more mercon?

Here is the reply I recieved from Castrol: "Continuing to market the same fluid without the Dexron or Mercon name is a possibility which is being considered, and yes, we can do this, but the fluid will not be licensed or "approved" for Dexron or Mercon and we could not use those names...

    blue smoke

My 97 used to look like we were fogging for mosquitos when it was below about 50 degrees, but it lessened as the temps rose. It always would smoke upon start up, though.

    no more mercon?

I did the same with Castrol.

    no more mercon?

The owners manual, and transmission dipstick, say USE MERCON. Do not use MERCON V or dual rated MERCON/MERCON V fluids. However, Ford now says that it is OK. That is just bull, IMHO, because the tranny and the fluid have not changed. How could it be OK now?? My guess is that it is not.

    no more mercon?

Why have they said for years not to use Mercon V or dual rated Mercon/Mercon V in thousands of E-4OD's and 4R100's if it is so much better.

    Steering box adjustment

I have heard that you can only tighten the adjustment screw, and not back it off. Any truth to this?

    Spark plugs

I had the Platinum+4's in my 94 Lightning when I bought it, and when I did a tune up I used the hipo AutoLite's. The idle was soooooooooooooooo much better, and the truck pulled smoother throughout the entire rpm range. Go with a stock type copper plug. They are cheaper and the best plug for a...

KING RANCH OWNERS - I called King Ranch -

Neetsfoot oil, Lexol, and mink oil will darken leathers to a chocolate brown. Even the "Non-Darkening" products darken leathers. I have used all of them for many years on leather boots, saddles, clothing, etc. The best product I have found to use on delicate leather to condition, protect, and...

    7.3 vs. 6.0

I have no personal experience with the 6.0, but I have had only great experience with the 7.3. They don't put down the numbers that any other truck does stock, but they have proven themselves as sturdy and reliable for the past 12 years.

Bypass filter blow out, left stranded 3 times!

I have read over on TDS that the Amsoil bypass system is a real problem, as far as blowing seals. OilGuard seems to be the weapon of choice.

    Question about CCV mod.

I did not think of a muffler creating backpressure, because so many of them are a straight through design. If you still run the stock muffler, or one of similar construction the nipple would probably be better placed after the muffler.

    Question about CCV mod.

I will be doing the CCV mod next month when I put the MBRP on, and I plan on using an exhaust evacuation kit similar to the Moroso. The exhaust must have a venturi effect and pull vaccum on the CCV due to the design of the weld-in nipple. I will place mine low in the down pipe, or just after...

    3.5" or 4" downpipe?

I would like to buy a 4" exhaust for my 02 CC LB Dually, but I don't know which down pipe would be best. There will not be any chips or programmers for a looooooooong time, so take that into consideration. I also want to be able to install the dp without beating up the firewall for clearance...

    exhause tip question

It will only be for looks, unless you put a 6"x18" tip on there. My dad had one on his straight piped 97, and it sounded a lot different than others with a straight pipe andthe stock tailpipe It makes the exhaust sound a little more hollow, or echo, if you will.
