Turbo is Coming Out...What Else Should I Replace?

The metalic sound is weird. The bang from an IC boot blowing off will really get your attention, though. Don't ask how I know! Good luck.

    heater core bypass question

Thanks Dennis. That would do what I want to do! I don't think I really understand the diagram (looked at it when you first posted) -- seems an odd way to show functions. But the table on the first page is helpful and shows what gets Vacuum on the different knob settings--great!

    heater core bypass question

Hey Tbar, thanks for the picture. I'm going to look at my truck when I get back home but if you can explain what I'm looking at I'd appreciate it. I see the oil cap, the tranny dipstick, the intercooler return tube, part of the downpipe, some shiny thing, and a cluster of lines which I guess is...

    Motorcraft battery

Yeah, guys, I fully agree. I'm just pointing out that Ford is promoting a much smaller rating as direct replacement. Seems crazy. Also hoping someone knows about a price better than $120 each on the 850 CCA, or a good alternative to Motorcraft. I've gotten variable results out of Interstate...

    heater core bypass question

I see the recent thread on the heater core bypass issue. What has always bugged me on the ford pickups is the quantity of hot air coming out of the vents when it is on the vent setting, even when it's a nice cool day outside. I have always assumed this is a hot heater core issue. The diesel...

    Motorcraft battery

5 years ago I put in a replacement set of batteries, I think the original was bsd65 but the ones I got from a dealer for about $100 each were bh65 (900 cold cranking amps-CCA). I recall that they were changing to a lower CCA, and discounting the batteries I bought. I got one bad cell and am...

    Question Turbo boot problem

Well that's what happened to me in January. I was lucky that it was sunny and dry but still it was enought to convinc me to go buy new "upgraded" boots for the intercooler connections...I'd done the easy ones already of course!!!

Question radiator fins fix & clean

yes! that is what I used (before the hail storm)! Works ok, but frankly the fin spacing is not 14 lpi and its not 15 lpi either...sumpthin' in between, I guess. but thanks...Im just complaining that I got it pretty well fixed and then next day...bam! I will not get it all straightened out, some...

Question radiator fins fix & clean

maybe...or just put the insect screen on when I take the cold cover off and be done with it. At this point I'm wondering I'll need a cold cover anymore, given the amount of reduced airflow that is probably occurring thanks to the smashed condenser face! Sort of a freak of nature, literally, ...

Question radiator fins fix & clean

Here's a Murphy's Law update...I did remove the grill, used a tool from Harbor Freight to straighten most of the fins, cleaned it all up pretty and put it back together. Next day, coming from O'Hare to home in central IL ran along the edge of a major frontal system and serious T-storms with some...

    EGT and Oil temps

Look at it this way...if you don't have an EGT gauge you don't know about all those potential problems either. That's why you are going to put one on. The addition of a single EGT near the pistons is a solution to give average conditions. You can add another to the other head, or, realistically...

How to remove only a quart of oil?

Here's a different idea. Take it out, warm it up, and drive it like hell for a 100 miles or so. As in extended rpm in the 2.5k range or so. Return home, and add your new quart of go-juice from Lucas. The beast holds 15 quarts but there is about a 3quart margin on that dipstick last I checked...

how does the front license plate mount?

I used brass carriage-head bolts from the back side and a deep socket and a couple of nuts to hold 'em down. The snap caps died a slow death in the 2 years after I mounted it, when I moved to a state that requires a front plate...take your chances with running it over the next time or breaking...

Question radiator fins fix & clean

I noticed that I have bent over roughly a half of a square foot of the fins up toward the top of my radiator (or is it the condenser, not sure) when I got careless with a power washer some time ago -- and I've been meaning to tear into it and try to straighten them back up. While at it I figured...

    7.3 coolant

The strips I use are from Fleet guard (for green coolant). They have 3 readings based on color after a dip in the coolant: freezepoint (glycol), molybdate, and nitrite. You guess the best color for the last two, and there is a table of values for which you score either "test", "service" or...

    stuck thermostat?

So let's summarize... You show no temperature on the gauge and it is cold even when running. (which gauge, OEM or after market?) This cold engine and cab temperature is worse when stopped than when running down the road. The engine is pulling good and the tranny temp gauge will move up but...
