Question Black Smoke Under hard Acceleration

You need to get it scanned to solve your black smoke issue. Everything else would be guessing. YOU can get a scanner at a local Auto Parts Store. Make sure it can read CAN codes and you are good to go.

Well, my next guess would be the electric transfer case motor.

    Question Stuck in 4x4

There is a whole bunch of stuff that causes the 'no shift' problems. The transfer case is shifted by a motor that is actuated by the solenoid. I have never owned a SOTF transfer case. I like MANUAL hubs and transfer cases, and this is why. You had better find a 4 X 4 mechanic to help you...

    Question Dually conversion

Maintenance is the key to diesel trucks. They will run for a long time if you keep up on the maintenance. A couple of tips; use quality filters like Motorcraft oil and fuel filters. Wal Mart has them cheap. Have fun!

No guarantees, as with all things diesel. Maintenance is the KEY to long life. Do your regular maintenance every 5,000 miles or whatever Ford says, and you should be golden.

I would keep an eye on it. Does it drive OK? Turn on the headlights just after it starts and see if they change in brightness.
