    Wtf??

Strange things are happening. Here's what happened. Backing in to a friends carport the idle started to get rough and had tons of white smoke. Got out of the truck and could smell raw fuel and it was bad. I'm thinking I've got a bad injector. Only 265,000 on the original injectors. It sat for a...

    Rough idle diagnosis

Finally back on the road again. Turned out the seal on the brass poppet in the FPR was torn up. Couldn't get more than 30psi. Got the rebuild kit from Diesel Orings and all is well with 60psi. Idles real smooth and runs better than it has in awhile.:sweet

    Rough idle diagnosis

Replace the fuel pump. New pump has good flow judging by the amount of fuel on the ground as I realized I left the fuel bowl drain open. Now it will not start. Checking with AE I had the following readings during cranking. Power - 11.1v RPM - 135 ICP - 1.3v Fuel Pulse 3.6. I had these...

    Rough idle diagnosis

Thanks Joe I did check the MAxifuse under the hood but I can't find the relay. Anybody know where it's located in an 01?:dunno

    Rough idle diagnosis

Had a new devolpment today. I was going to hook up a fuel pressure gauge and change the fuel filter. Filter only has about 3000 mi on it but you never know. After the filter change I started it up. Ran pretty good for a minute and then just died. Now it wont start. I opened the fuel bowl to see...

    Rough idle diagnosis

Could that be a problem with the IPR or HPOP? I did check the oil level and it was about 1/2" from the top. I have heard that the pressure should be 500 or above to start but there would be a drop as engine warms up. EOT was 130 when I checked the data.

    Rough idle diagnosis

Here are the symptoms. Idles rough when cold, gets worse as motor warms up. Stumlbes and misses on acceleration. I have changed the UVC harness and valve cover gaskets. Ran a CCT with AE and got code P0284 Clylinder 8 Fault/Balance. Injector buzz test was normal. Looked at PERDELS for each cyl...

    Glow plug replacement

I'm replacing the UVC harnesses glow plugs and valvew cover gaskets. Do I need to worry about the small amount of oil that gets into the cylinder before installing the new glow plugs?

    Exhaust leak

I started the truck up a couple days ago and noticed that the engine noise was a bit louder than usual. The idle was also a little rough and it stumbled a bit starting out. On inspection I did notice a little black soot below the collar on the up pipe on the drivers side. Looks like I'm in for a...

    No A/C at low RPMs

Yes it does. I am still going to get a new clutch because mine did look a little worn. I didn't check the air gap with a guage but I could see before removing the shim the air gap was almost 1/8.

    No A/C at low RPMs

Just did mine today. Yes you have to remove the clutch. It's about a 15 min job. I also have 235K and wouold have changed the clutch but our local O'Reillys didn't have one. The old one is a little worn so I'll get one at the Napa store by work.

    Who has the highest miles?

235,000 on my 01. Replaced tranny at 75,000 and water pump at 190,000. Best truck I've ever had. My '87 6.9 had 345,000 and still was still going strong when it was totalled by a drunk driver.:rant

    California Smog Check

I just went through the Cali Smog Test. What a joke. I a little homework first. I hid the controler for my DPTuner chip under the dash set on the stock program. Got the CARB EO number for my AFE stage and took it in. He asked if I had I chip, Of course I told him no. He accepted the paperwork on...

    Bilstien help

Talked to an old friend of mine that used to work at the local Ford dealer. He said that unless you remove the steel sleeve in the bushing you can't install them wrong. Ford uses a shoulder bolt at the top mount and a bolt at the bottom. The 2 are different diameters.

    What is fuel costing you?

We have a staion nearby watching his prices is like watching the old stock market ticker. Price goes up than in a couple of days goes down, then back up again. Oddly enough the price goes up on Friday morning and down on Tuesday morning.

    What is fuel costing you?

Today I saw $4.99. I'm sure it will be at least $5.10 by this weekend. The thing that really gets me is there is a station 3 blocks away selling for 4.65. Of course there are lines that bring back the gas shortage of the 70's but for .34 a gallon I'll wait in a line. Seems price gouging is alive...

    Bilstien help

I sure wish they came with install instructions. I did notice that only 1 bushing had a steel sleeve installed. On the front shocks the steel sleeve was on the boot end. Seemed logical to me that the steel sleeve would be on the bottom. The rear shocks had the sleeve oppisite of the boot so I...

    Bilstien help

I just got my Bilstein shocks and getting ready to install. It looks like the fronts install with the boot down. Is this right or did I get the wrong shocks. I always thought the boot was up.

    Rear brake help

Got the job done. I didn't think of the e brake shoes until after they were off. It looked like there was plenty of clearance. I think it was just rust, dirt and a bit of stubborness on their part. Thanks for the replies. Mike

    Rear brake help

I got it. Just needed a bigger pry bar. That sucker was on there. I guess after 140,000 miles it was happy where it was. Hope the other side goes better.

    Rear brake help

Trying to replace pads and rotors on rear but I cannot remove the rotor. I thought they slipped of just like the fronts. I've used a big mallet and pry bar and so far it won't budge. Am I missing something?
