How can you tell if a truck has been chipped?

Dealer is only able to re-flash the ECM. But if is a programmer he's not going to be able to do much with it if he want to put it in another truck or sell it to someone. The programming software needs to be removed from one ECM before adding onto another one. This is why you can't buy just...

How can you tell if a truck has been chipped?

Sounds like it might have a light tune on it right now. Did the previous owner mention anything about having a programmer in it? You should get ahold of them to get the programmer or tell him to take the program out of your truck you just bought off of him, if he still wants his programmer...

    1 ton ford vs ram

I was not taunting, but simply giving an opinion based on the Cummins engine. If you can read I did not bash PS at all, I actually had good things to say. The OP asked for opinions on Cummins also, and its hard to get that on SDD. So then I put it out there that he should get some more...

    1 ton ford vs ram

These all sound like very ford bias opinions. I had a power stroke a few years back and made the switch to a Cummins. Granted i did prefer the interior of my 03 PS to my 06 Ram, it was the engine that made me go that route. You just can't beat an inline 6 for pulling power and fuel economy...

    5w-40 is the best!!

If you you think the 5w40 is good, you should try a 0w40. It makes the 5 look like molasses in the extreme cold weather. It's what I run in my big rigs in the winter.

    Question ZF6 behind my Cummins?!

I never minded the way my 99 shifted, it always seemed fairly smooth but we didn't have it to long (cut off by a school bus and T-boned it). 520 ft lbs eh? I wonder how that compares with a G56, probably is pretty close i would imagine if they are using them in newer fords. I do know however...

    Question ZF6 behind my Cummins?!

Hey guys, it's been quite a while since I've posted here, mostly because i went cummins a few years back. I would like some input from you guys with zf6's in your trucks and how you like them. Im thinking of doing a standard swap into my dodge but i really don't like the OD ratio on the G56's...

Question Bogging noise... Turbo, Transmission, I don't know..

Ok, so it's not the Exhaust Back Pressure Valve. Check the tranny fluid and see what it looks like. You may have to drop the pan and look inside of the pan. If there is alot of foreign material or metal shavings then there is a good chance it is your tranny.

Question Bogging noise... Turbo, Transmission, I don't know..

Or you can just unplug the EBPV sensor, that will stop it from working too. It is located just above your water pump behind the belt pulley( really easy to see). There will be 2 plugs there and it is the one on the passengers side of the motor. I did that with my dads old truck cause the EBPV...

Question Bogging noise... Turbo, Transmission, I don't know..

Do you have any gauges in the truck? Your code reader won't tell you anything if there are mechanical parts failing tho. But was your engine light coming on at all? What does the tranny fluid look like?

Question Bogging noise... Turbo, Transmission, I don't know..

When your tranny slips it shouldn't sound like the truck is bogging out. My tranny slips when i am hard under load and it just revs up and goes nowhere. And if it was doing it 2 years ago and it hasn't done it since now I don't think its your tranny. You would have been replacing it if it was...

    wait to start light died

Cycle your key on and check your if fuel pump is running. If it is not you may have a shorted fuel heater element. Check for burnt fuses too. The heater element, glow plug light and fuel pump are all on the same fuse.

will a motor out of a school bus work

Basically if you need to change all of the above then your still good. All you need to do is clean off all those parts off your motor and swap them over. Basically at least the block will work for you.

I second that if it just happens in 4x4.

will a motor out of a school bus work

If it is a 7.3L powerstroke it will fit just fine. I don't imagine they made the bell housing mounts any different for a bus. He already has it in a truck so it should go back in one. :sweet

Rear Dif on its way out?

Especially if you have never got the oil changed before. If it is not making any noise there most likely isn't much wrong. If a wheel bearing(s) is gone then you will hear noise all the time when you are on the highway. If it the gear set that is going or a carrier bearing then the noise...

    long time to start

These trucks will start quite some time after they have been left sitting without waiting for the glow plugs. A long time to start could be a number of things from weak oil and hp oil pumps to bad or weak injectors. These trucks do need to crank over a bit longer tho due to the fact the...

    94 IDI stalling out

I second the fuel pump. Throw a new fuel filter on it and if you can't get it to squirt fuel out of the bleeder valve then its time for a new pump.

With just the positive cable to the GPR. The GPR should be grounded already so don't put a negative cable on it. There is constant power to one of large top posts on the GPR at all times and when you turn on your key it sends a signal to the GPR wich makes the power jump threw to the other...

need quick answer for tomorrow morning.

Check with a 12v test light there should be power on one of the large terminals on the GPR and you can just jump it with a small wire over to the other side

    fuel heater??

Wow, I should have had a coffee before went on the computer this morn. After checking out that hot fox thing on the link it seems pretty neat. Still I might just go with the return fuel in the tank and then a good fuel/air/water separator. Seems to be an easier install to me.:dunno

    fuel heater??

That is a good idea, unfortunatelly sometimes out in the bush I don't have access to a receptacle. The tank of fuel also does not gel right up it will still flow it is just more viscous. I need everything on the the truck to be 12v only so the truck can be self sufficient. I may have to go...

    fuel heater??

That is why I am mixing it half and half with straight diesel. It worked fine for me last year before I did the hutch mod on the pick up. The warm fuel kept it flowing good enough. And never a problem with start up either and it gets cold here.
