    Vacuum hubs

Can the vacuum hubs be disassembled and cleaned? I am going to put some ball joints in my 2000 F350 and I wanted to go through the hubs too. The vacuum hubs used to work OK when I purchased the truck two years ago but they don't work now. I am going to replace the o-rings and seals for the...

    Help Needed HPOP oil leak

I replaced the o-rings in the HPOP today and the leak seems to be cured. Truck seems to run better too. Thanks for the help. Gil;tu

    Help Needed HPOP oil leak

Thanks for the help. I purchased an o-ring kit today and will put it in this weekend. If this does not cure the leak, it sounds to me like the HPOP will need to be replaced. The bulletin says that the only thing that has to be removed to gain access is the turbo inlet. Is this true? Should...

    Help Needed HPOP oil leak

My 2000 F350 started leaking a lot of oil the other day and I found that the leak is coming from the high pressure oil pump. I couldn't pinpoint exactly where the leak is coming from on the pump except it looks like the drops are coming from the rear of the pump when it is running. I found a...

    Question 4X4 low won't engage.

4x4 low with the NV 273 transfer case needs 3 inputs to electronically shift. You need: 1. 0 mph vehicle speed 2. brake on 3. and the shift lever position in park or neutral. If the GEM module doesn't see all three of these inputs, it will not shift. Definately check the fuse first but...

where can I find turbo bolt?

I don't know if IH had a similar fix. Maybe they could cross reference the Ford part number? Gil

    Question pc bassed scanner

If you mean a computer based scan tool to read diagnostic trouble codes and data, autoenginuity has an excellent PC based tool and software package that works really well especially for Fords. I believe their website is AutoEnginuity® - OBD2 Scan Tool - Professional PC and PDA Diagnostics. Gil;tu

where can I find turbo bolt?

Ford's fix for this is a bolt set with a tighter thread fit P/N 1C3Z-9G486-AA. I'm sure that red loctite will do the job just as well. The torque spec is 30 ft/lbs. Gil:sweet

    comment another trans thread

If your trans fluid goes down without any external leaks, check the fluid level in your transfer case. The trans and t-case are separate items but if the seal between the two fails, the trans fluid will go in the t-case. I can't remember if the radiator has a trans cooler in it but if it does...

    Question Towing in OD

Thanks for the advice on this one. I didn't think it was an issue because they don't really say anything in the owner's manual about what gear to use; they just have a chart of towing capacities for the model of truck. Gil

    Steering wheel slop

If you want to get rid of that last bit of slop, disconnect the pitman arm or center link and remove the driver's air bag. Check the preload torque of the steering box with an inch pound beam type torque wrench. You need to have the steering wheel turned about 1/2 turn off of center to check...

    Question Towing in OD

A friend of mine has a similar truck as mine (2000 F350 4X4 7.3 Automatic) and he said that when he tows his 13,000 lb 34 foot trailer, he always uses third gear because he doesn't want to damage his transmission. The most weight I have towed was about 7000 lb and I never had any problems using...

Chasing my tail looking for a problem

I was a Ford instructor for 8 years and this concept was one of the most difficult things to get the technicians to understand. Once you get it, electrical diagnosis becomes easy. No more "parts 'till it starts!" Gil

    Question keypad reset

You can read the code with a factory scan tool. I don't know if you can read it with an aftermarket scan tool or not. If the aftermarket tool has body function capabilities, it might. Gil

Chasing my tail looking for a problem

You can test your cables and all the connections by using a DVOM. You are not going to be looking for available voltage by connecting the meter from positive to negative . You need to look for voltage drop on the power and ground sides by connecting the meter from positive to positive and...

Help Needed skip on cylinder 8

I wasn't sure what a "hot mix" was but I added 50% more additive on the last tank of fuel. The normal ratio is 12 oz to 30 gal and I added 18 oz to 30 gal. Since I can't push the clutch pedal on my car (broken ankle), I will be driving my truck (automatic) and maybe the additive can do its...

Help Needed skip on cylinder 8

I broke my ankle on Monday :eek:so I have some time to think about the skip in my engine before I can actually do anything about it. I added some Stanadyne (sp?) fuel treatment that has not changed anything after one tank of fuel. I have not been able to shim my fuel pressure regulator yet and...

Announcement New CJ-4 Oils Now Available From Amsoil

Question for Dane Dane, I have been using Amsoil products in everything I own that has an engine in it for some time now except for my 2000 F350. I am an Amsoil dealer as well. I have read the information from Amsoil about the new diesel products but I have been cautious to use anything...

    FPR Broke

Alliant Power Service is an aftermarket company that makes all sorts of diesel components. They have a fuel filter housing for your 7.3 and the part number is AP63425. I'm not sure if they have any distrubutors in the DFW area (I'm from central NY) but you can check their website Alliant Power...

    GEM Module Questions

You are correct. The clockspring is not hard to replace (Clockspring is a Chrysler term, sliding contact is the Ford term). The only thing you forgot in your proceedure is that you must make sure that the steering wheel is centered and the wheels are pointed straight ahead during your...

    Question Transfer Case Lubrication

Your transmission and transfer case do not share a common sump. Therefore you can put any lubricant in either component without having to worry about them mixing together. I believe that the latest bulletin from Ford says that you can use the newer ATF in the Transfer case too.

Help Needed skip on cylinder 8

If this fixes my problem, why did it wait until 168,000 miles to start acting up? Is there just enough junk in the fuel system so that #8 can't handle it any more with Ford's recommended fuel pressure of 50 psi? I did notice today that it does not skip when it is stone cold. After the engine...
