What causes the Trailer Disconnected message? Using my brothers 06 F350, Auto, built in TBC towing roughly 6k today the message center and the TBC kept throwing the Trailer Disconnected message, never did clear, brakes worked, light and signals worked. Put on a new 2 5/16 ball still got the message. All day and it's quite annoying.

Where do I need to start looking for the problem.

Thanks

1. Excessive resistance in one of the electric brake magnets.
2. Faulty ground that loses connection when truck is in motion. Use a ground wire to complete the circuit, not the trailer frame.
3. Faulty connection at the 7 pin socket on the truck side.
4. Using a 6 to 7 pin adaptor.
5. Inadequate size wiring. 14 ga. minimum for both positive feed from the brake controller and the ground circuit.
6. Use of pinch type wire taps. Connections should be crimped, or better yet soldered.
7. Trailer brake magnets should be parallel wired, not series wired.

Just some ideas. Hope it helps.

mine did it for a 500 mile round trip whe I borrowed a buddies trailer, more so on "bumpy" stretches of road. turns out (like said above) the ground wire was bad on the trailer side inside the plug, and the trailer was grounding through the ball mount. Every time the ballmount unloaded or rattled the message came on.
