6-speed tranny missing low gear???

Anyone ever had a low gear damaged on one of these? This one will not engage, just spins. All other gears work just fine. THis is still on the truck I am looking to buy. Shop quoted a 2600 dollar repair. Sounds about right but is that the only option?

That is the only option if you have a stripped gear. Don't drive it far because the remains of the stripped gear will get between the teeth of the other gears and take out the tranny with a big BANG!!!

R&R with a zf reman, it's probably around that.
