And another question

How much does this stuff expand? When we filled the tank the guy stopped when the handle shut off the first time (why I wasn't fillilng it myself is another story). I noticed tonight that I had a lot of what would be spillage on the side of the box and down on the mud flap. It's been a little warm here but not like Eastern Wa or Texas. It pushed out enough that the rubber on my mudflap is warped...

What do yall think?

First off wash off the bioD from your truck's paint and rubber IMMEDIATELY! Use soapy water or Simple Green then rinse well. It's a strong solvent and will remove paint and soften/melt rubber. Second, IMO the expansion scare is B.S. with bioD because it's run in a non heated system.

I suppose you already checked your fuel cap but a thought. I never had any spillage that wasnt done by the guy filling it and he always ran it to the top of the neck. It was in the low 100s for over a month here too. Did you watch him fill the tank? Maybe he spilled and didnt bother to tell you.

Once when I was topping off, I opened the valve of the bed tank to finish topping off the pickup tank to where I could see it in the filler neck. Topped off bedtank, went and BS'd with the guy and looked at lab tests from fuel and what not. Back half of the truck was parked in the sun and it was mid 90's by 10am, came out 45 minutes later to see fuel under the truck. It was coming out of the vent lines from the top of the tank but not the filler neck. Caps are supposed to hold pressure and it's part of Texas State inspection process.

It will expand some, but who knows how much.

We were talking about stuff while he was fillinig and he had a spill towel under the handle the whole time. Interesting...I'll keep an eye on it this time and see what happens.

I've never had any problems with B100 expanding but I usally don't fill up to much and the temps don't get to warm in Portland.

I can say that WVO expands considerbly. I'm shooting in the dark here but at about 150 I'm guessing about 10% from a room temp. But with B100 anyones guess is as good as mine. Anecdotes may be the best predictor in this one.

I can attest to WVO expanding in my tank. I still fill up all the way. By the time the tank contents expand say 10%, I've burned say 10% of the WVO. My plastic 55 gal drum which sits in full sun expands too if kept sealed.

By the way, all OBS PSDs don't have the same front tank size. Some are plastic (mine is) and others are steel. I'd think the steel tanks get hotter in a heated system.

There is a small vent in the top of the tank, with a rollover valve. The valve is hooked to a small hose that is clipped to the frame. Should be a small plastic vent plug at the end to keep crud out. I had a similar issue to what you describe, turned out the hose had shrunk enough to seal around the plug, allowing the tank to pressurize. Then whatever fuel got in the filler neck would spray out thru the cap when it released do to over pressure.

You should be able to blow and suck thru the hose with the cap out. If not it is either clogged/kinked or the rollover valve is stuck shut.
