Boot Size

Does anybody know what size the Boots are on a OEM 7.3L getting ready to up grade and just have not had time to take a measurment. I thought they were both 3"X3". But after reading TG post on the upgrade 6.0L IC I saw that he said they were 3"X3.25". Just wondering thanks for the help.

Justin, I do believe the 3" X 3.25" is correct.

Dieselsite.com ( a sponser here ) sells the upgraded boots you would need.

I'm pretty sure both the tubes are 3". The fittings on the 6.0 intercooler are where the questions arise. Some 6.0 intercoolers have a different size hose connectors than others. The best thing you can do is get your intercooler and then measure the intake & outlet sizes.

What I found was that diameters weren't as much of an issue as the length of the connector boot. Longer connector boots are needed for use with a 6.0 intercooler. That is why I got my connector boots HERE, they are a good 8", plenty long enough to do the job.

What TG sez is what I ran into.

I used an OEM, FORD, 6.0 I/C. The outlet port was a bit bigger Dia. than the stock one was. The inlet slipped right on. I got the outlet boot on, but it was a PIA.. I used Windex. It's not so much the Dia. Diff, as it is the working room you (don't) have. I loosened the recovery tank and moved it over some, for more elbow room. That boot couldve been a tad longer too, IMO.

Now that I think about it.. I also removed intake & filter box and the Dvr side Battery & Tray. I was also installing the Banks I/C tubes.. but moving and removing those may help you too. Just a couple more bolts

Thanks for the help. I was thinking it was 3X3. The wife asked me but couldn't say to much. Thinking Christmas present, she is tried of hearing the boot leaking and knows that I am losing Boost. She is slowly learning about diesels and the different parts. But gave her the Dieselsite web page so I'll see in a couple of days.
