Buy 97 7.3 Turbo D no CA smog or?

Ive found a 1997 F350 Turbo Diesel 7.3 here in CA which I don't think requires smog at all, thats a savings right there. However is there any real advantage to moving up to a 99+ 7.3 power stroke ? I think thats the year PS came in?

Trans issues?

Earlier model = No smog hassles, lower initial cost of truck, still good styling, still good power and MPG.

Just be aware that some (many) counties in California require smog checks on diesels. I am not sure what years get checked. Check before you get that truck.

Here in LA last year is 97 for required cert. From my intel, if you like the OBS the 94-97 are good years for MPG/power ratio and seem to run more or less with the same issues as newer models. One advantage might be that I can add options such as HHO without worrying about smog cert.

97 and earlier diesels do not require smog in California. Cheers!
