Had to swap out the IPR valve last week. My truck would die at highway speeds and then start only when the valve would cool off. I had my mechanic change it out. He told me that it would probably have air in the system now and would take about 50 miles to work it out. Well, it's been around 150 miles and still sputters on the top end. Will this work itself out sometime soon? Or is there something else I need to do.

Get on it like you stole it. These engines do NOT like to babied. Floor it every time you get on the freeway. I would do what I have suggested for at least another 100 miles and see what happens. Good Luck!

Well, I should have known. I found IPR valves anywhere between $40 and $200 on Amazon. The one I bought cost $70. It's another one of those things with these trucks to where you should always buy a Motorcraft part. We pulled the $70 part and replaced it with the $200 Motorcraft part and viola, drives like new! Like I said, should have known.

thanks I appreciate the info, having hard to start when hot issues, again, my scan gauge shows my IPR 85% and icp pressure around 350, gotta let it sit, and then it will start.
I suspect an internal leak, but I also don't trust my IPR, I think mine was an Amazon prize!!
thanks again.

Hey Mark, That's exactly what a bad IPR will do. It gets hot and has to cool before it will work again. My original bad IPR would work perfectly, but while driving down the highway it would just "switch off" and die. Then after it sat on the side of the road and cooled a bit, she'd fire right up like nothing was wrong only to do it again in about fifteen minutes. Until I got it swapped, I'd carry a squirt bottle and when it died, I would squirt the IPR to make it fire up faster.
