Well i did a diy electric fuel pump setup up on my truck this weekend. A few people asked for me to write what parts i used and what steps i did. So i will try my best. I would like to add their are a few good write ups out their. i found one on tim's intercooler page (google it),their is one on another forum and dzl jims site too. They all are really helpful and give u a good idea what u have to do. Also i didnt have time to take step by step pics as my truck was down i needed it fixed asap. But i will take some pics in a few days. Okay so i had been collecting parts for this for a while since my mech pump has been acting up and i wanted to upgrade to a electric one. First i made a mounting bracket to hold the electric pump and mounted infront of the transfer case. Next i cut the feed line to the engine and plumbed in the pump( my truck has a two tank wvo system on it so it has rubber hoses no steel lines and it also has a seperate filters for each diesel tank and wvo tank so that really made this easier) i ran the postive and negative wiring from the pump up the frame to the engine compartment. Next i removed the fuel bowl and then taped up the 3 sensors off of it. Then i loosed off the banjo bolt and removed the mech pump. Don't drop the tappet inside the engine or your day will be ruined. i plugged the hole with a papco rubber frozen plug that u tighten down. next i hooked up the fitting to the banjo bolt and hooked up the feed line. then i made a bracket to hold the the aeromotive regulator and hooked up the two fuel lines from the heads and connected the return fuel line to the bottom of the regulator. Plumbing done. I checked it by touching the pump wires to the battery, Well it worked. nice Next thing was to install the oil pressure switch, it works so the pump only has power when the truck is starting or running. Not when u have the key on and are just say scanning for codes. It threads into a plug by the block heater. Take the plug out thread the switch in. u will need a adapter to space the switch away from the webbing by the block heater. U will have to connect three wires to the switch. one from the starter soleniod, one from a hot wire when the key is in the run postion and lasty one from the power to the pump. On the pump power u need about a 30amp fuse. hook the pump ground wire where u like next flash her up. works sweet. i installed a fuel pressure gauge on the regulator also. dzl jim says these trucks like 65 psi so dailed that in and done. Truck drives better and sounds alot better also. This is a very rough guide, i suggest checking out the above mentioned writeups. But im here to help and will field any questions u have and answer to the best of my abilty. Pics to follow soon.
