im interested in the edge evolution cs & just curious if it comes already programmed out of the box ? i looked on the edge website & it shows the specifics for all the different vehicles power increases , do i just plug & go or do i have to have it programmed for my specific truck which is a 97 7.3 f250 HD with a 5 speed ? or does it recognize what engine once its plugged in ? if i bought another truck , could i just swap it out plug & go ?

thanx to every one for the help ;tu

Generally Speaking.. this is how "Programmers" work:

You buy one for Your specific Engine/Tranny series.

When you plug it in.. it identifies and "Marries" itself to Your PCM. It will then reprogram your PCM to the "Tunes" it has.. Or.. direct you how to do it.. with easy to follow prompts, about perfomance options and Tranny shifting options, Limiters... etc. It (most) will ask you questions about Transmission type.. and the like.

Soo.. Some are Plug'n Play. Some have to be Loaded in, with specifics. (yul get what you pay for)

As long as it's "Married" to Your PCM... it WON'T be able to be used on another engine/tranny.

If you Un-program your PCM.. Back to all the Stock settings.. Most programmers can then be used.. on another engine/tranny, of the same series. (like, to sell it ?)

Make any Sense ??? Hope this helps. :dunno

thanx Joe

kind of makes sense , i dont know much about the chips , i dont want to smoke my tires or anything like that , i just want a bit more power while pulling my 5th wheel .

below are all the applications for the edge evolution cs , the chip im interested in . & my truck is listed . the reason i asked if it just plugs & plays is because it has all these applications listed . so when i buy the chip , do i have to tell them what im putting it in & they put the program on it ? my truck is a 97 7.3 f250 HD 5spd 4x4 & lets say in a year or so , i decide to buy a newer truck providing i un-program the pcm back to the stock settings could it be used ? or could it even be used on another make of truck ?

Ya Know... There are Soo many Chips & Programmers out there.. I wouldn't want to hazard a guess, or an answer. Some are Plug'n Go.. Some are more Complex. It's Your PSD ? and Your towing needs ? (and Your wallet :sly;))

The BEST thing to do.. is to call the maker(s) of the one(s) you are interested in.. and ask them any questions you may have. Tell them what kinda Power you are looking for, and for what.
