Help Needed Gear indicator flickering & Improper gear changes.

F450 2008 ( 48K Miles) 4x4 Auto - I have been through a few episode in the last 50 Miles or so. Gear indicator flickering quickly from P to L1 and I could feel jerking from sudden and improper gear changes. I stopped the truck during an episode and had to let it sit for while before it would crank. It's as if the truck figured I was not in Park. The episode last 15-30 seconds and everything is ok after returning to normal.
Tranny fuild level OK, temp gage read good, tranny fluid is clear and and NO burning smell.
Any clue as to what this is and how serious it might be ?

Getting your truck scanned at a good mechanic will tell you what codes are present. That is what will give you a clue as to what is going on. We all can guess 'til the cows come home.

There was an overload of codes, they were useless. In the end they track it down to the trany wiring harness. Wires rubbing and ended up being exposed to getting in contact with metal and each other.
