I have a 2008 6.4 and for a while it would hesitation when trying to start when cold... It would try and turn over, then pause for about 1 second then fire right up. This was driving me bonkers because I had the batteries tested at the dealer and they were fine they said. So in my mind I was ruling the batteries out of the potential cause of the issue. As it got colder it would pause a bit longer before cranking over. So I decided to try new batteries yesterday. I got two with 850 CCA. That was my issue. The new batteries made all the difference. It now spins and fires up immediately.

Just posting this incase others fight the same battle I did.

I've had batteries test good, but I know they're bad. Got into argument with a person because she charged it first. I said well no kidding it's going to show good as soon as you pull it off the charger. Let it sit for a half hour then test it. She wouldn't listen to me.

A proper load tester, it shouldn't matter.
Also a starter can do exactly that. Or bad connections/cables.
