Hello out there!
Went out to my driveway yesterday and my 2008 F350 Diesel would crank over but not start. Used code reader and there were no codes. I did notice however that the key would not spring back when in the start position to on position. I had to physically turn it back to on position. I replaced the ignition switch and still does the same thing. I am about to rebuild the ignition cylinder thinking it may be binding or some other problem as when you just barely insert the key the chime goes on and wiggling the key makes it go off.
Would the failure to spring back to on position prevent the truck from starting? I'm thinking it might since the bendix unit would be engaging the flywheel and cause grinding and... Am I on the right track?
Thanks in advance!

The first thing I would do, using a muti-meter, is probe the harness connector at the switch.
