I noticed KN has a reusable oil filter. I have the air filter. Anyone have experience with the oil filter? Thoughts? Comments? Sent from my SM-T830 using Tapatalk
I've used K&N Oil filters for many years, but like Steve_in_29 says, they are ***NOT*** reusable. What made you think they were?
I'm not sure what K&N is offering for reusable oil filters but we use reusable spin on filters for our race cars and have for years. For these cars it allows for accurate oil performance analysis as well as indications of engine wear and potential failure. The one time price difference can be around 20 time the cost of a performance standard spin on filter so you have to weigh the value for a reusable based on your usage. For race cars that only go couple hours between changes, it makes sense. If K&N does manufacture a reusable for your diesel powerplant, and you do your own maintenance, then it could be the direction to go.
http://www.tpdiesel.com/product/TYMPERF-F02P Best perfomance and air filtration. I bought mine from the guy tymar who explained K&N ends up restricting air flow because of the way it is designed letting in more dirt and the K&N are not easy to clean and recharge. I did end up blowing my weak turbo because of the amount of air flow the turbo lets in and probably not changing the K&n. Tymar is not cheap and watch out for knock offs. Tymar patented his design which keeps water out. Good luck.
Edit just realized that he said Oil. Disregard the below info K&N filters are rechargeable. I switched mine at 30k service. You can wash them out and re oil. They sell a kit you can use to wash them, every 24k in cars in the 6.7L they get really dirty and you have to order a foam part separate to compete the kit.
