hi all i recently bought a 97 F350 XL reg cab 7.3L PSD it has 163000K on it 4x4,auto. it was sitting for a couple of years, but it starts no problem and runs good, but the other day while i was going up hill the check engine light came on and the engine just died for like 2-3 seconds restarted on its own and the CEL went off it did this about three times. i haven't registered it yet so it hasn't been driven since. any ideas on what this could be? thanx

Lemme get this straight, it died and then restarted without having to turn the key to the "start" position?

I think it is possessed. Might need to perform an excorcism.

Ok, serious now. Has it done it more than that one episode? I'm leaning towards a CPS failure or getting ready to fail. Do you have the ability to read the code or have the codes read by somebody?

i just read the article on cps failure, which sounds right could it be anything else ? one of the mechanics at the mtn. has a code scanner but i have to bring the truck to him, which is no problem after i put it on the road. the cps article mention watching the tack needle for hopping while the engine is cranked should i try this?

If the truck would flat out die on you then yes, while cranking keep an eye on the tach as that can be ONE of the diagnostics on a bad CPS.
