Well, I have an appointment at the local Ford dealership to have the firmware upgraded on my 08 CrewCab. The build date on my truck is 5/07 and according to Ford any truck built before 7/07 needs to be flashed. The new firmware is supposed to make changes to the shifting and fix the way it idles to 1k anytime I leave it parked and running for more that 5 minutes. I'll post an update after the flash.
I THINK IT IDLES UP TO PREVENT COKING.BUT LET ME KNOW AS MY BUILD DATE IS 3/07 ON MY 08 SD CREW CAB 6.4 DIESEL.
The update appears to have gone well. I didn't drive it a lot, but I did notice a few things. The shifting is definitely better. It also builds boost WAY faster. Before I would have to go full throttle and be moving at a pretty good clip to hit 30#s on the guage. I gave it one good throttle and it built 20# immediately and hit 30 right after that. It was quite nice. It also feels better under easy acceleration. It has always felt a little doggy unless you gave it plenty of gas and now throttle response feels much better. The weather hit 50 degrees here today, so that might have been a factor as well. I would definitely recommend getting this update applied.
I tried, but my Dealer still says my Truck does not need an update. It was built 3 of 07. Is this a program that Ford is just letting out to a few dealers to try? They did tell me they have a major download for their computer at the end of this month, maybe it will be with that download.
