Newbid needs help

Hi, I'm a newbie and I just bought a 2014 F-250 with 21,000 miles on it. I'm getting ready to take a trip and it now has 22,500 miles so I was going to change the fuel filters. I looked at a few videos on U tube on how to do it and it seems very easy. However when I opened the drain on the frame mounted filter I drained about 5 gallons of fuel out before I closed it. The videos didn't say anything about how much fuel should drain but it looks like it would hold about 2 to 3 quarts. What am I missing?
