Question Oil Shelf Life?

For the last 2 oil changes, I have 1 qrt. left over of new oil.

I saved one of the 5qrt. jugs and I have put the extra qrt. left over after each oil change.

The first qrt. was saved in July '08, the second in March '09.

By the time I have saved 5 qrts. and will only need to buy 2 5qrt. jugs, will it be safe to use the extra oil I have been saving?

Yes it will be safe to use. Oil shelf life is a long time without too much degradation. 5 years would be the shelf life for a conventional oil and synthetic would be slightly longer.

If it was me though I would start with what you have there in the picture on your next oil change and then the left overs will be fresh as a daisy!

I save the lefy over oil after an oil change and use it in my lawn tractor. All I have to buy when I change oil in it is the filter.
