Usually I do not have any issues while towing. Last 2 trips I had a powerloss and my vehicle speed dropped to 25~30mph. It seemed to be temp related but at the time I did not have a scangauge connected. But I own one now.
I was towing from AZ to San Diego (I-8) and then again I-17 Phoenix to Prescott turnoff.

During idle the EOT shows 199 and ECT shows 88.
First it seems that my ECT is off. I will check my settings (Scangauge) and see if it is correct.

Is 199 for EOT OK or Not?

I did change to Synthetic (Rotella for Diesel)... Could this be my issue?

Your oil and water (coolant) temperatures should be within 20° of each other. You have a bad connection to the coolant gauge. It should read closer to 190° F. Rotella is great oil and I run it all of the time.

I will try to reset ECT settings in Scangauge and see if it reads more closer to actual.

I moved to Synthetic because people said it was "better" so I am assuming this isn't my issue.... or hoping anyway.

Thanks for all of your reply's past and future, this forum is great because of you and guys like you.

Rotella is not your problem. Again, it is great oil and I use it all of the time in my 6.0. It is not the cause of your temperature problem.

I know it has been about a month, but I finally got to drive my own truck for once today. I finally fixed my scangaugeII to read correctly.
While driving my EOT= 232 and my ECT=272 at the highest. During the drive the EOT was always 40deg lower.
After stopping and lifting the hood I could spin my fan easily.... Bad Clutch Fan?

What are your readings after a cold soak, to verify the accuracy of your gauges?

They should be within a degree or 2. (By the way, *fWT is also your ECT that is a standard gauge in the SGII)

This is a good gauge to see what your fan is doing.

Fan Speed Sensor (RPM)

TXD: 07E022099F
RXF: 04620509069F
RXD: 3010
MTH: 000100040000
NAM: FSS

KO=0 LI=533 HI=488 OR=0-4000

This next gauge will show if you have a "pending code" in the system. Pending codes will not set a CEL until it reaches a set of parameters.

DTC Count (Diagnostic Trouble Code Count)

TXD: 07E0220200
RXF: 046205020600
RXD: 3008
MTH: 000100010000
NAM: DTC

KO = Key ON Engine Off
LI = Low Idle
HI = High Idle (2500 RPMs for this )
OR = Operating Range

Truck needs to be at operating temp for the above.

272 degrees is way too hot for ECT! You have a fan problem or some other problem ( water pump?). Head gaskets could be a problem if you see coolant puking or low coolant in the degas bottle. Is it using coolant?

So I replaced the water pump and it wasn't the issue. I then pulled the oil cooler and found the water passage to be completely blocked. I also found my fan clutch wiring to have been cut by the fan somehow. I will be replacing that today

Sadly, those passages plug up. It's like a filter in there.

And the Fan wiring does get clipped. Surprised you didn't get a p0528 code for that.
