putting a 2008 step tailgate on a 2006

I have a 2006 superduty shortbed. I would like to put a 2008 or 09 tailgate with the step on my truck. I have seen others that have changed the tailgates. Do they fix with no mods? Or is there finessing? thanks

It can be done, but the step version tailgate is very expensive to buy piece by piece.

The cheapest way is to find a "take-off" on ebay.

What about the lock on the tailgate? Could you get it rekeyed to fit the original ignition key or would you have to have a second key just for the tailgate. I keep both our 150 and 250 tailgates locked since tailgates are so easily stolen.

The lock mechanism off the old tailgate will work in the 2008 tailgate handle.
