Well I cut a bit of mdf (dont like it...should have used 1/4 inch
laminated plywood like before).

Got all this laid out, holes drilled, thinking i had extra carpet
roll over the garage...guess what...bit of carpet i was gonna
cover the board w/ isnt big enough ! UGH !

Ill use this as the opportunity to make some minor changes to
the mounting board and cover it w/ matching carpet (like i'd done
before)...

heres some updated...photos....w/out carpet...

Thanks -

The box isnt really "PERFECTLY" sized...but theres so little room
back there its hard to get anything back there...and still have
some storage.

The solution could be improved if you could move the seat forward,
even an inch...but thats more difficult than it sounds (youd need to
mill some concentric spacers).

The kicker solobaric (square sub) provides about 20% more speaker
area....so a 10" square solobaric hits as good or better than most
ROUND 12" subs.

If its just me, (or 2 additional passengers) i flip the seat down (on the
subwoofer side) for a little added "thump" (since the speaker can move
in and out a little more w/out hitting the seat).

the solobaric S10-L5 is a little shallower than the L7 models (and depth
behind the seat is important).

the S10-L5 can handle 500w RMS or 900w peak...which makes it a
nearly PERFECT match to the JL Audio 500/1 MonoBlock Amp.

in this photo (below) you can see the slight imprint in the seat back...
and you can see the 1.5 farad capacitor attached to the sub box....
obviously im running outta room ;) but i still have some storage behind
the smaller <fold down> seat.

nice work there....don`t have any over heating problems with the amps underneath the seat?....:sweet

nope...not w/ these amps anyway...which is why i did this 'upgrade'...
i had an older fosgate monoblock 200w that was melting carpet
(145* surface temps on the amp/heat-sink) and it was doin' thermal
shutdowns when pushed hard.

so i pulled the fosgate 200w and installed the JL Audio 500/1...more
than DOUBLE the output and much much CLEANER amp.

If you notice in the photos the heat sinks are ALL hanging over
the mdf mounting board...so they get plenty of air circulation...NOW...
even when driven to their peaks.

the seats (when folded down) angle back & so theres actually LESS
room at the back (near the hinge portion) than near the front.
the way the amps are mounted now, there is NO contact w/ the seats.

I COULD core some holes in the board, under the amps for some added
cooling but it isnt necessary.

the amps could STILL be pushed back a good 2inches if you wanted...
just cut the board shorter to maintain the heat sinks "hanging" over
the edge for good air circulation from below thru the heat sinks.

I had some temporary fans installed...FOUR of the quietest i could find...still
wasnt enough cooling for me and i could STILL hear them running.

I also didnt like the idea of having the fans blowing on my
passengers ankles...

Yes my amp is installed under my back seat in the south texas heat and it has yet to cut out even once and i push it hard. JL audio 500/1 pushing 2 JL 12W3V3's.

When I had my Z28 with 4 12's, I had them mounted in my box so they would HIT right off the back glass.

I was always under the impression (especially in a pick-up) that if the subs were right up against the back seat, like your's is bush, they bass would push alittle harder?
