Question strange noise....on acceleration

6.0 2005 Lariat. When I stomp hard on the accelerator and then back off quickly I get a funny "ticking sound" which seems RPM related.
It doesn't do this when I accelerate gradually. What gives and should I be concerned?? I understand the turbo system has a variable fan--is this what I'm hearing?????

when you stomp it and let off of it, that sounds like the wastegate dumping boost. if so this is normal, this is prob. what you are hearing.. as far as the engine cooling fan, you will know when it engauges.. sounds like a mack truck! kinda hard to miss it. hope this will help you out

There is NO wastegate on a 6.0 engine. It has variable vanes in the turbo and no wastegate is needed. Do you have a boost gauge and what does it say when you accelerate?
