Suspension Question

Just picked up my first PSD yesterday. It's a 97 sc lb 4x2.
It came with the "camper" package. I was wondering if the springs were heavier duty than if it didn't have the camper package. Seems really stiff. Much stiffer than my 91 GMC 1 ton. I think I'd like to soften her up a little...

i have heard that the velvet ride shackles make the ride a little smoother. i also heard they stopped making them. i dont know if thats true or not.

my 97 350 rides like a dump truck. when i load it, it rides like a loaded dump truck. i love it

you could always cut leaves out and install airbags...kelderman has kits

I would guess that the camper prep package would include either heavier springs and/or have a different spring rate. I know that the snow plow prep packages include upgraded springs.

I guess I'll be on the lookout for any 96-97 f250s in the neighborhood to see if there are any visual differences in the springs and go from there.

If I'm not mistaken the camper package included a different overload (same as the towing package) and a stiffer swaybar.

Is the overload spring the short, "straight-ish" one on the bottom or the curved one on top?

both are overloads, the top one is there with the intent that it catches at the end on those rubber padded L-brackets when you have a heavy load to help carry the load better the straightish one on the bottom is the absolute overload and does not bend or flex really at all.

Thanks. That makes sense. I've actually lowered the air pressure from about 70 psi all around (that's what it was at when I brought it home) to around 50 all around since I run empty most of the time. Much better this way but still a little bouncy. I think I might throw in some new bilsteins though.
