This may or may not be a stupid question, but where does the factory tach get it's signal from in Diesels? My truck is an 01, so I'd assume it is electronic? Is it safe to say some older trucks had mechanical tachs?
I ran some searches here, and I haven't done any real under the hood investigating on this myself yet. A buddy of mine asked me this question as I was hauling some tires for him yesterday and I didn't have a real answer, so it got me curious too.
