6.4 tow rig

I just bought my first powerstroke, a 2008 F250 6.4 with only 16000 miles. So far all has been good. I am curious though what the difference is between my dads 05 f250 with the 6.0 and automatic trans and mine. Reason i ask is his I believe he only has the option to manually select 1st, 2nd, and Drive, (which I assume is overdrive). I have the selction of 1st,2nd,3rd, and D. Is there any mechanical differences? And on a second question, (i didnt search this one) do you normally tow in tow haul? I know in my 150 i towed in drive with overdrive off, since thats not an option now, im guessing tow haul takes the place of overdrive off button. Thanks
