In a van down by the river...
I just saw on Bob Riley's site that Amsoil Universal ATF is Dual Mercon/Mercon V rated. The Ford owner's manual I got says to use Mercon fluid in the tranny/t-case (I've got the ZF-6) but with a manual do I really need to worry about the dual Mercon/Mercon V rating of Amsoil. For the record, I've had Amsoil Universal ATF in my tranny for the last 30K miles and haven't had a problem with it, but if it's a bad thing, I need to know soon (and why)...

The reason is, the materials used in construction of the 4R100 automatics are not compatible with the additive package that makes ATF mercon-V rated.

Rebuilt 4R100's should use whatever the rebuilder tells the owner, because the incompatible materials (clutches and whatnot) may or may not have been removed.

I do not know what would be in a 6-speed that would make it incompatible. About the only thing I could think of would be seals maybe?

I have 150K+ with AMSOIL ATF. At 100K a sample was tested all good but @ 150K I had the trans flushed and added fresh AMSOIL ATF for another 150K
